Even if he were pressured in some way to step aside, there was a democratic election! Clinton wasn’t just chosen as the nominee in some smoke-filled room! She even had a pretty persistent challenger. This is what voters saw. How can you replace the spectacle of a primary with a 19th c. nomination?

Yes, SCOTUS is very corrupt, but not in exactly that way. The conservative legal project extends well beyond Trump and they are very interested in federalism as part of that project. Which severely limits avenues of appeal in state criminal trials. Also not an option for SCOTUS to delay sentencing.

They’re in New York Supreme Court now, and SCOTUS can’t declare mistrials in state court. Hard to see any angle of appeal to SCOTUS anyway.
