Your regular reminder that HPV shots are not just for teen girls, they are for everyone of every gender! In AMAB people HPV can lead to head and neck cancers, and causes about half of all penile cancer cases.
I am Just Barely Too Old, even with the recently expanded age range, but we got our kids, both AMAB, vaccinated. Cancer doesn't discriminate by gender.
they are, yes, but in some countries like here in Germany they try to keep adults from getting their jab. They will claim that people, who had already had intercourse (or they assume they should have had!) cannot get it anymore. So it is only offered to teens and pre-teens here.
But tests started in 2009 with 13 y/o schoolgirls.
In 2022, Norway started screening women 25 to 69 years of age.
Among those vaccinated, records show exactly 0% cases of cancer.
Both my son's have got them right when they came out, largely to protect the future women in their lives, but glad to hear they are also a good idea for their own health!
Friendly reminder that conservatives are against this life saving vaccine because they think it encourages promiscuity and apparently that's more important than preventing the worst fucking disease known to human beings.
I kept asking about this and hearing mixed stuff, people seem to think if you’re like over 26 or something that it doesn’t matter or it doesn’t work so I haven’t gotten one but I feel like I should
I'm a 48 year old cis woman, in the UK, and every time I look the age range available has gone up, but is still younger than me. (But yes, if you can get it, do!)
Going to talk to my pharmacist tomorrow to see if I need an order from my primary about getting one
I've had thyroid cancer already but it's a good thing to still get given my family history
Unfortunately they can be very difficult to get for someone not seen to be in the appropriate category. I had to really fight to get one several years ago because I was male and thought to be old enough that it was thought I must have had sex enough to have already contracted it.
Maybe I'm not as connected these days, but I feel like this news doesn't get shared enough, loud enough. The HPV vaccine is a big win that should be embraced and celebrated.
My daughter got vaxed bc while she's barely verbal, some guys don't care about consent. My son got vaxed bc I don't want him to be responsible for giving his girlfriend vaginal cancer one day.
I’m trying to get my insurance to cover it. I’m 56. I had my first positive HPV pap 2 years ago (it cleared) but if I date again it sure would be nice to be protected.
You can also get it as an adult now. I got it at 30 last year. Just told the Walmart pharmacy to fuck my shit up and got COVID, flu and HPV in the same visit.
Im curious about those of us who got shots when they covered less serotypes. Should we get the newer shot for better coverage? Should govs be funding a program for free “booster” shots if so to drop that cancer occurrence rate even further?
Unless you have been consistently 2 years older than it's approved for ever since they introduced it.
It's so frustrating. Wish they'd just let me pay for the dang shot. What harm could it do?
