I read the sentence "child care has become a market-based system captured, to an increasing degree, by private-equity firms, which now own eight of the 11 largest chains" and -- knowing how private equity firms operate -- the hair on the back of my neck stood up.

we need laws in both Canada and the US regarding what private equity firms can and cannot own, because it seems to be the root of some of the WORST breakdowns & exacerbated systemic issues everyone is facing. Yet it seems unlikely for such laws to ever become a reality...

It is hard for me to say how many women closely follow the nitty gritty on the policy issues, but Biden allowing Manchin to cut childcare from BBB and not fighting for it at all (and he did fight Manchin on a lot of other things) was an almost unrecoverable blow to me.

most families who send their children to daycare receive state or federal subsidy to do so— most chains have an entire network of full-time subsidy specialists to help parents file for it. private ownership of childcare is giving PE tax money with extra steps.
