also Trump's supporters have no idea what he's saying half the time! no one does! there's no need to overthink this. Trump is popular because he channels vibes-based grievances and wants to punish those groups who his supporters feel have wronged them. That's it.

the other thing is that people have no sense of how much space cars and so they imagine that a road full of cars must be a lot of people when it very often is not. a well-used bike lane transports like twice as many people during a given time as does a road

Sadly, calling the request of government records “huberting” never caught on.

Agree!! Phone banking is lower yield in my experience. We prefer postcarding and texting in this house, and have turned out tens of thousands of each over the past few elections. It’s not just wishful thinking - this kind of outreach has been shown to make a difference!

THIS. Participate in collective action and volunteer your time to get out the vote in key states, no matter where you are.

Dems can repeat a sweeping victory like Labour did if we organize and get out the vote, especially in swing states. Imagine a day when key GOP fascists lose and go home and Dems hold the Presidency, the House, and the Senate. It can happen, but only if we work together! wapo.st/3VP4hbz

And the best antidote is collective action - after all, that’s what voting is. Get out the vote from home with these easy activities - texting, postcarding, and maybe even phone banking.

Couldn’t agree more, and we need to imagine this is a possible outcome (because it is). But beyond voting, consider volunteering and using your time to get people registered and to the polls!

Sending postcards, or writing letters with Vote Forward, is a great way to amplify your message and get out the vote.

Exactly. If you haven’t seen it already, here are a few options for volunteering that can be done from home, on your own time, without going door-knocking.

We also talk to our reps and Senators regularly, whether by email or in person. But we’re in a tiny blue state so that’s not a big feat.

Yup. Lots of people pointing out obviously this would be weaponized against LGBTQ folks. But also it just fundamentally bristles with a hostility towards privacy and freedom that runs through the entire project.

Not to be corny but I do think the ongoing aspiration to make America a pluralist democracy of equals is righteous, beautiful, and worth honoring, even if it has more often been the struggle of minorities & dissenters than the policy of the government. 🇺🇸

History will recall that the New York Times, that bastion of "the liberal media," on July 4, 2024 chose to give prime space on their op-ed page to a theocratic absolutist who argued that people shouldn't vote, even though he himself has voted in the last 2 elections (but nowhere is that mentioned).

Phone banking is low-yield and annoying, I’ve tried it too. Here’s a bunch of other texting and postcarding opportunities that are have a much higher hit rate, and have been shown to make a difference in close races.

There is SO much you can do to reach voters and potential voters in swing states. Over the past few elections our household (kids included) have sent tens of thousands of texts and postcards trying to GOTV and boost turnout in key races. It’s been shown to work, too.

You can literally reach thousands of voters or potential voters via text banking and postcards, and both have been shown to make a real difference in close races. Our household has sent tens of thousands of messages over the past few elections, it feels good.
