Hey Americans, feeling politically powerless? You have an election tomorrow. Fascists are targeting those boring state and local positions and using them for everything from abortion restrictions to book bans to criminalizing trans healthcare. It's up to you to stop them.
library budgets are very often (but not always) up for a vote on regular election days (mine is) and it’s always a struggle because the only people who darn sure show up at every election are the anti-tax crowd. If we could get regular people to show up every year it would change the world.
The choice in the United States is between fascism and oligarchy. Both parties monopolize the political landscape and are bought and sold in an electoral process that is almost entirely privatized. The system is designed to demoralize the people.
Special election in Massachusetts’ Worcester & Hampshire Senate District to replace the previous senator who resigned to take another job.
One of those easy to miss because this is an off year for Massachusetts November elections.
Early voted. There is a christo-fascist running for council. He lost his last election to be a legislator. Can’t wait for him to lose again. (Hopefully) It is true that “they” are trying to fill positions of power here.
My local school board has multiple seats being filled in this election. Tip for anyone interested, look for their social media accounts. One guy presented himself so professionally, so quaintly nonpartisan. Then I found his Twitter. And now I am terrified that he might win this seat. 😬
King County Elections Director in WA state — usually the epitome of boring, safe position — is currently a contest between the normie candidate and an election denialist.
There are no “off” years.
I agree with you but someone has to say it: after dobbs and … everything else there are going to be people who feel disenfranchised. Making them responsible for the state of the country now is going to ring very hollow
I'm kind of resentful that Republicans can use supposedly minor positions to achieve all their goals but generally Democrats in major positions can barely move the needle.
“What are we supposed to do? vote harder?!”
YES! We need to collectively vote way harder. 70% of people under 30 are sitting out. Roughly half are neighbors continue to vote against their interests and for fascism. We have yet to do the bare minimum necessary to fix this shit. So yes, vote harder.
I would vote, but, I'm not registered to and my parents have, at pretty much every turn, prevented me from being able to register.
I cannot even prove that I'm an adult :)
I don't have an election tomorrow, surprisingly. The only election in our county tomorrow is for the school board and water board in the next town up the highway. Next thing up is the primaries in March.
I double checked and there is unfortunately no election tomorrow where I live.
And yeah, we ended up electing a goddamn QAnoner to the school board in 2022. By a landslide. It wasn’t until 2023 that she started having her fellow cult members file false complaints against teachers…
