But isn't the idea that this requires new federal legislation something the supreme court invented just now?

If they had, BROTUS’s opinion today would have ruled it’s not for Congress to decide who gets on the presidential ballot, this is an issue reserved for each State to decide on its own.

They also failed to protect reproductive rights when they had a majority over the last few decades in spite of the Republicans openly admitting their plan during the same time frame. Unfortunately the Democratic politicians tend to always be reactive (after damage is done) instead of proactive.

In fairness, if that did pass it absolutely would have been struck down by the Supreme Court as unconstitutional

Well, see, this is a good example of something they WOULD pass if they were in the majority. I mean, a supermajority. I mean a supermajority so large that it can deal with the defections from a handful of members in unsafe seats. I mean, after we finish renaming all these post offices.

come on, you know this court will strike this law down as unconsitutional. It's up to the states to determine who is on ballot would be the reason.

A law! How novel that he thinks this supreme court cares about such things. In the land of the wizard-kings they decide what the law is and who gets to make it: i.e. whatever they say; and them.

No one assumed that you had to pass a bill to verify that a Constitutional amendment says what it plainly says.

They really think that people haven't caught on to the game where they only propose things to the left of Mitt Romney when they're in the minority and they know it can't pass.

If they’d anticipated “that amendment doesn’t count unless Congress passes an extra law that says the same thing again”, the SC would have come up with a different excuse.

Congress did, in both houses, so determine! The house impeached him for this and the senate, while it did not meet the threshold for removal, voted 57-43 that he was guilty!

Lots of things the Dems should have done when they held power, but that would have forced the "moderates" and "centrists" to actually take a stand. "Centrist" starts with the letter "c". So does "Coward".

This is literally political victim blaming, it's kinda funny how blatant it is. "You dumb victim, if you had been smart enough to put a *second* lock on your door, you wouldn't have been burgled. There's no way they could have broken a *second* lock, it's all your fault."

I'm as pissed off about this as anybody but Manchin either wouldn't have signed off on this or, if the GOP filibustered (which they would have), he wouldn't have gone nuclear for it. All to say, Dems didn't have the votes to do this & never will until every Dem sen commits to nuke the filibuster
