Perhaps you misunderstood? They do not want you to buy him A piranha, as they are a social species that group into schools. You need to get him a dozen piranha, so that they can thrive in a setting with others of their kind.

I think he should know that Fish keeping is a difficult hobby, you practically have to be a chemist in order for it to work out in the long term. That said, if there's anything like local aquarium groups with mentorship programs for newbies, he should look into it.

When younger, my brother had a piranha. It was left in my care for awhile. It was god-awful. 100% do not advise. Thoughts and prayers to you and your family. 🤣

I knew a guy who had a piranha. Pretty disappointing fish. It was very shy and would just hide if the lights were on. It would kill stuff at night, though, so you'd wake up and the goldfish would be gone to some degree or another.

I decided to buy the chiddler an aquarium tank. It will not contain fish. However, I have no intention of letting his mother know that last part. Neph and I will collab on letting her think piranha is coming. He will love that. win-win. Send your parenting queries via dm(pls don't actually send)
