All-time record shattered today in Las Vegas, beating the former record by 3 degrees F. Records that once seemed impossible, made possible - if not likely - by climate heating.
As I say, with climate change expect the unexpected.

Reminder that AC can cause dehydration. I know that there is a heat wave hitting and it’s super easy to think “I’ve got AC so I’m good” and not realize that you’re getting dehydrated. Keep water close to hand and take a drink regularly, even if you don’t feel thirsty.

Thank you. That's not even cropped, that is the whole view the camera is pointed at. Why?!

I just realized I haven't seen the usual hot weather advice / prep posts that normally pop up before a heat wave. Wonder if those sharing got overwhelmed with the useless "Dur, it gets hot in the summer" nonsense and gave up posting? Or if like a lot of posts lately, I just miss them in the noise.

I had mine at 78, bumped it up to 80 to see if that's too much for me (thinking the eventual power bill). Haven't tried lower, just trying to keep things closed up and the various fans on for circulation.

Huh
Reported today I saw two Western Kingbirds. Grey head, yellow belly, dark wings and back, done.
iNat: Yeah, that one has bars on its wings among other differences. That's an Ash-throated Flycatcher.
Me: A who what now? Cool, that brings my year total up to 127.

Interestingly, this year I have learned that two folk I bump into at work frequently both live within a couple blocks of me.

Yeah, it opened, uh, within the last year or two? Losing track of time.

The neat thing was the adult was peeping along fairly consistently, to the point it just became part of the soundscape. Then, it suddenly changed! I glanced up (cause I was mucking with my camera) and just managed to spot the American Kestrel fly in low over the river and land in the nearby tree.

I had so much fun watching these two Spotted Sandpipers along the river bank today. It was a joy to see the little puff ball bobbling away as it moved between the reeds and grasses.
I uploaded a combined video of the two to my YouTube channel if anyone is interested. youtu.be/ZtNxVjWJS_8
