Poor people use libraries. Rich people shut them down because they don't *want* poor people to read.

I gave 1000+ ebooks, and another several hundred hardcopy. And a 47" flat screen. I love the county library! Libraries are awesome for everyone!

I was always "Yah, libraries are great I guess" but since having a kid they are a freaking lifeline! Almost every day there's a free storytime for my toddler where we can meet other families in the area. They also lend out free passes to local zoos, museums and Sesame Place

I worked for my local library system for 15 years before retiring and still use it weekly for books I can no longer afford to buy. I have 13 books on hold, all of them are new ones coming out from various authors. I would never get the chance to read them If I didn't have the library.

and now there is a worldwide murdochracy backed campaign to stop poor kids from accessing social media until they are aged 14 - especially those kids in public schools - dismantling public education & learning is for their own good of course. I think the voting age should now be 14 & compulsory.

When I was having an especially rough time finding a permanent job post-graduation, libraries were practically the only way I *could* get books to read or access a computer at times. Anyone who thinks they're disposable or unnecessary is out of their damn mind - or has an agenda.

They have little libraries because they gave the book to a friend after they finished it, because that friend gave them another book after they finished reading it. 'Poor people don't hoard books' is not the put down the classists think it is.

Seattle’s public library system is currently experiencing a ransomware attack and it is the most enraging and frustrating kidnapping of one of the only spaces in the city where you aren’t expected to spend money. Librarians are checking out physical media and recording it on paper.

And books are more expensive than TV sets, even big ones. That's why we need libraries. A quick look suggests you could buy in the region of 10-20 books (not academic books) for the cost of a 55" smart TV

libraries were my refuge when I was homeless, and when I was abused. aor conditioned (I was in FL then), I could use a computer, read, write, exist. it was a haven. I cannot stress enough the value of this for people.

Poor people have tiny apartments and move a lot; books take up a ton of space and are heavy as sin. I keep my most favorite and special reference books in my personal library, everything else I let the public library store for me. Might as well share when I'm not actively reading them, no?
