I am a huge supporter of our local library. Our family are regular patrons and we donate thousands of dollars every year. I have never had a librarian write a synopsis of a book for me, or provide discussion questions, but I have aways been able to see what books my kids check out.
Ahh so it'll ask completely dumb questions that are based around a random keyword it latched onto that has nothing to do with the book. (Example question from my message, 'how do latches work?')
My father (RIP) was definitely a conservative, however I never forget when I was about 8 and had my own library card, and checked out some Edgar Allen Poe. I was at the counter while he waited with his own books in line. The librarian asked if I had permission to check out these “mature” materials.
How could this app get permission from every publisher for every book for the AI to "read" it? It's hard enough for school libraries to afford the print copy.
AI is nowhere near able to do this. I tried as an experiment. It cannot summarise and it definitely can’t write comprehension questions.
It can’t even distinguish between different works by same author, or entirely different works with similar titles. It cannot even be *coaxed* to do this.
