Just thinking how very stupid it is for a country to give Trump - one of the most corrupt, criminal, evil Presidents - criminal immunity while in office. It gives him more reason to want back in, and the corrupt Conservatives know they can use him. He'll charge them for the benefits, though.

Note that the GOP took decades and a lot of money and maneuvering at different levels, and they're putting Project 2025 aims right out in the open. They are playing a long game, with coalitions of people who wouldn't normally get along, but have similar aims in changing systems. And lots of money.

And I guess that's a big part of political organizing, figuring out what levers to move, how much political will and $$ are needed, to effect certain changes. And how to educate enough people in/about the system to make change possible. They're trying to change massive systems.

People are in charge of specific goals, like making money for a particular company, or protecting an billionaire's wealth. No one is in charge of the big picture, of systems, of controlling bad actors, of helping everyone thrive. We're a part of many collectives we influence but don't control.

Though I agree with this, you shouldn't *have to* know "the right people" to find out about events happening in your area. Unfortunately, the way it is now, you have to actively seek them out and connect.

And between the algorithms suppressing political content by default and the dispersal of communities that used to be more findable on Twitter, information is getting harder to spread and find. Also, it's easy to get distracted by other content while on there. That's probably all on purpose.

...I think many protests that pop up "organically" are organized by citizens and their friends, and without much organizing experience, they don't know how to advertise them. I've seen events I would've loved to attend that I found out later were only advertised on one platform, which I'm not on.

Note that (probably because of built in algorithm filters), this stuff is challenging to surface "organically" on social media. I want to attend some local protests, and find out about several after the fact. I've had to seek out accounts that post upcoming events and set notifications. Also...

I'm seeing a lot on Instagram, but probably because of my viewing patterns that have tuned the algorithm to surface it. I also had to go into settings and turn off the on-by-default filter that reduces "political" content.

Don’t say “if Trump wins, then we’re an authoritarian state”. Yesterday’s ruling, the foundations of which started fifty years ago, makes us an authoritarian state. The question is just which sort will we be. Will it be one that protects its most vulnerable, or hunts them for sport?

Too many people only see the people from a state who are on TV or have a big social media presence. Those are usually the people with privilege and power. Don't forget that there are entire communities that are not represented in media, that aren't powerful, and deserve attention to their causes.

Yeah I think it's both - for various reasons, she's not getting media coverage, but also I don't get the sense that Dems have been spending money ensuring that people can be confident in her ability to take over the country when needed.

One thought I've had since yesterday is that the Democratic party better start working on voters' confidence in Kamala, stat. Whether or not Biden steps aside, she is the next in the line of succession, and on the ticket people need to cast a vote for to have a Democrat in the highest office.

Yeah my family member who got it is ok without the red meat so far, but is extremely missing the dairy. I mentioned it here, hoping to wake up people who act like they don't care if they get a life threatening allergy to something, because it's something they don't care for much, anyway.
