Rereading Vonnegut and damn he’s good. Random sentence: “His high school was named after a slave owner who was also one of the world’s greatest theoreticians on the subject of human liberty.”

Vonnegut had his finger directly on the pulse of the human condition. Which is why he's still so relevant, because the human condition never changes :-)

Almost no one else could tell you the ending first, then spend the rest of the book telling you how it got there.

The combination of Vonnegut and 2000AD comics when i was a teenager is probably what formed most of my ideas, such as they are.

His best book. "The chief weapon of the sea pirates, however, was their capacity to astonish. Nobody else could believe, until it was much too late, how heartless and greedy they were." Best description of the European invaders of the Americas I ever read.

I have no idea why but whenever I think of Kurt Vonnegut he's being played by Donald Sutherland when he was rocking that professorfro.

Yes, he was good. On the level of Rod Sterling and others. Prophets who lived through the Great Depression, WW II, and tried to warn future generations of how easily history can and will repeat itself.

My dad was at Shortridge HS with Vonnegut but a bit younger, my uncle was in classes with Kurt. Apparently he was always a few degrees off center but hints of genius too, even before the war. I read Vonnegut at my dad's funeral, he said everything so well.
