Thousands in the streets of Paris celebrating and cheering “no pasaran” or "They will not pass” as the far right falls out n France’s election. Just absolutely amazing scenes tonight across France as they fight the fascists back. Now it’s our time to be brave and come together to for a united front.

Raw number comparison (because the % comparisons don't tell the full story) 2019: Cons—13.9 million Brexit—600k Total gammon vote—14.5 million 2024 Cons—6.7 million Reform—4 million Total gammon vote—10.7 million Labour have 9.6m votes, which is 600k *less* than 2019.

This wont be news to anyone but… …As of May, we’re at 35,562 deaths in Gaza That’s 82% of The Blitz (51% all UK civilian casualties during WW2) and rising 1/3 of these are children Israel’s losses numbered 1478 …it shouldn’t just numbers but no moral conception of war justifies this imbalance

‘To the manor born’ is surely only a pun coined for the Penelope Keith sitcom. I’ve not seen it used elsewhere.

Morning, Bluesky. Two days and a wake-up until the start of much-needed change in the UK. As there’s some confusion, here’s a tactical voting guide from The Progressive Alliance. Everywhere not mentioned, it’s safe to vote Labour.

I like the idea of ‘oil dereks’. Like suburban oil barons, I suppose.

Around 2003, when she was still best known for working with Mitchell & Webb, she was filming around the corner from us. I was walking my very young son in his stroller when I noticed her and she noticed us. I babbled, while she said lovely things about him and was absolutely charming. She’s super!

Very tough fittings and synthetic materials (not always the lightest) which don’t show wear, and inspire confidence. Same goes for Trakke and Billingham, though they use more traditional materials.

The quality is exceptional, and it’s made by a small team in Seattle. An equivalent in the UK would be Billingham or Trakke - both great, too.

Surely Farage will simply cross over to the Conservatives (perhaps with the rest of Reform) and (ecchh!) assume control from within, forcing moderate Tories to split…

It’s not just the arts: what’s with all these billionaires buying up the best fossils for display? It’s so short-sighted: Andrew Carnegie didn’t get his name on the Diplodocus by digging it up, after all… Give the dinosaur to the Natural History Museum, fund a lab, and display a replica at home!

Excluding actual wars, Brexit is one of the greatest own-goals of all time. Britain and Europe had forged something their finest leaders and intellectuals considered an impossible dream: an alliance of shared prosperity. Then Britain tore it up in a fit of nativist dipshittery.

Every word of this and I'll add that I truly believe Andrew zwakefield should face trial for crimes against humanity. Once again, a mediocre man's desire for notoriety has weakened society and destroyed lives.

Sorry: not actually a Unimog, but a 4x4 Mercedes van. Still pretty capable off-road, though probably hellish noisy and slow by modern standards.

I know people who looked at one house, and there was both a grand piano and a fridge-freezer in the dining room. The day before they moved in, the seller phoned to see if they’d like to buy the piano. They declined, only to find the (tired, untuned, near-defunct) piano still in place the next day.

And Honda actually managed EIGHT valves per cylinder in the NR750, by virtue of having oval cylinders! It was effectively a V4 which acted like a V8, built because there was a limit on number of cylinders in GP racing. But there was a production road version too: the NR, in 1992.
