Exactly this. Inequality, social status (percieved), and direction of travel all interact to create the vibes y'man up-thread is referring to. It's not that the objective and subjective are completely detached, it's that we often just use the wrong objective measures.

NHS crumbling and well on the way to being submerged in the private provider space. Local Authority spending cut >50% in real terms, post '92 Unis about to start dropping like flies. Whole Gvmt depts captured ideologically (DWP would take a generation to fix). They are in dreamland.

I really wish people would stop talking about '14 years of failure' in respect of the Tories' time in office. With the complicating factor of Brexit notwithstanding (some of them wanted it, some didn't) they have succeeded beyond their wildest expectations.

Its more ideological than that even. The cultural capital associated with attending HEIs should be reserved for people like them, not us plebs. This has always been about rolling back WP and fully reinstating yet another class marker of privilege.

And the corollary; the implicit suggestion that, just because students attending 'non-elite' HEIs are more likely to have shit going on that prevents them from partaking in encampments and demos, it means they don't care about those issues. DB is a sneaky little shit-weasle.

In the UK, it's more that students attending less elite, post-92 institutions are more likely to have caring responsibilities, be commuters, work 35 hours + on top of studies, and generally be more time poor than their elite contemporaries. Which is of course the point. Resistance takes resource.

Retired, and a known kook, but yes, and that wasn't wildly unrepresentative of the wider feeling in the armed forces. I remember people pointing to A Very British Coup, as template too. *And* some cunt in the Times wrote an alt history were Corbyn won 2017 and turned the UK into Threads.
