My mom does this, mainly because she buys in bulk, and it's inconvenient to have a gallon jug of Dawn next to the sink.

Similar how RWNJ's cry about: "The Trans" grooming kids (except when cis, white scout leaders/coaches get caught) Wearing masks in public (except for Patriot Front rallies) Men in dresses reading fairy tales to kids (except for Catholic schools) Immigrants taking jobs (except for menial labor)

Much as I disparage them, my mum's HP laser connected with, and prints from my Debian machines without a hitch. On Win10/11, connecting to the same printer installs 3GB of bloatware before I can print a test page.

Never installed on my machine. In fact, the little switch to "try the new Outlook" vanished. Dunno why. 🤷‍♀️

Similar reaction of kids who grew up watching Thomas the Tank Engine and seeing "Mr Conductor's" comedy specials.

IIRC, it allowed a larger "virtual" desktop than your video card or monitor could support. Say your display was limited to 640x480 or 800x600. You could use a virtual desktop of 1024x768 or 1280x1024, then the mouse would scroll when hitting the edge.

Printers were relatively common computer kit at the time. Usually some cheap dot-matrix thing, as lasers were still in the $1K+ range, and bubble/inkjets were getting started.

I love the brighter one. (Side note, saved this on my PC, and was looking who to credit for this, and didn't know you were the one who did it. The Googly image bot led me to your tweety, that led me to your bsky profile.)

If you're in (or near) the Southwest US, you can also visit the missile silo that contained the Phoenix (which is about 150 miles south of Phoenix).

They even placed an "unsafe link" warning on the Threadreader archive when you try to open it. But doing anything to stop the porn bots who spam the same links over and over is impossible, according to the ecks "safety" team.

I block blue accounts on mobile twitter all the time. Of course, I don't use the app. Mobile Firefox is the best.

I drive an '02 Elantra, which is two years older than the previous Hyundai I drove daily. The steering is physically linked to the wheels, as are the throttle and gearshift. The smartest thing in the car is me, and even that's questionable.

Selection of some of the cats in my life: Forest (named after a parking garage) Teeter Moops (her given name was Tweeter, after the hi-fi shop) Kittne (that's not a typo) Al (he was kinda weird) Yen (a Japanese bob-tail) Mitsubishi (owner named her "Eclipse", but we were jerks, and car nuts)
