The conventional wisdom is that there’s a sizable chunk of decent people who really dislike Trump, but can’t bring themselves to support Biden b/c of his age, etc. The reality is that 45-47% of the public plan to vote for Trump because they like him. Even now. And that’s fucking depressing.

45 percent of the public plan to vote for Trump? Only 20 percent of the U.S. population voted for him last time.

What sort of freaks answer the phone? That's all this is. I did one time and punched the buttons to tell them I was a gay black veteran who just looooved him some Mitt Romney.

Roy Edroso made a similar point: if Biden loses it's not because he's old, it's because enough of the electorate looked at Trump and decided bringing on a fascist theocracy is no big.

*voters, not the public. A number of people are ineligible (children, immigrants) or checked out.

What worries me most is people who think if we can just defeat Trump, it's over, instead of understanding that we are facing an international effort to restructure the world in a way that fundamentally makes everyone less free and safe. While I see idealists screaming at people who agree with them.

I constantly think about this when there’s mockery on here of the tiny sliver of “persuadables” because they don’t know some obvious thing, and really that’s not the problem at all. The problem is that Trump’s floor is astoundingly high, and that says quite a lot about the state of the country.

It’s more like 30-35, still too high but they were always terrible and Trump just gave them an excuse that they refuse to abandon.

Age is a meaningless pretext as proxy for fitness. Anybody observing the facts will notice that within the constraints of party and political system, Biden is competent. It’s like wearing thick clothes in summer bc the thermometer shows low temps while everybody outside is sweating.

Maybe I'm a Pollyanna, but I don't believe the polls. Their sampling is too broken and their results are being driven by the statistical corrections they have to apply. Recent election results have almost always been way off from what polling predicted.

From these numbers it looks as though there might be 1-2% that would consider ditching Trump if he was up against someone other than Biden/Harris. If the Dems were better about attacking their opponents with a more coherent message I'm thinking there might be another 1-2% swing to be gained.

It is depressing but nothing new. It was known that he’d said “you can grab them by the pussy,” before getting elected in 2016. People who vote for him don’t care about morals or ethics or even decency.

I made a periodic trip to northern Mass yesterday from central NH. I've mentioned it before. Lots of Trump flags in southern NH. I've never seen more than I saw yesterday. Mostly upscale housing. Salem, Atkinson, Hempstead, Chester, Derry, Londonderry, Bedford. It doesn't change til you get to Manch

More people voted for him in 2020 thank 2016. MORE PEOPLE looked directly at those 4 years and said YES! We want to vote for him now. That makes me depressed every single day.

Yes - most Americans share Trump's values. That's why it's so hard to live here.
