No. I've switched to criticising Labour when they're wrong eg: involving private finance in NHS and cheering when they occasionally get it right eg; onshore wind power. No progress was possible at all with Tories in power, all protest and lobbying was pointless.

Thanks for that. Interesting. Getvoting definitely seem to have made the most wrong calls. I think people expressed doubts about them at the time, suspicions that they were too pro-Labour in some places seem to have been borne out.

The issue of Gaza suggested the party’s rebrand had purged Labour of a moral backbone. When Starmer says he will govern “without doctrine”, what he is not recognising is that “progressive realism” is a doctrine, one that excludes compassion and solidarity.

I'm talking about Conservative MPs with a big C, you're talking about conservative voters with a small 'c'. The latter group don't matter. The next election will be between a far-right Tory party and centre-right Labour party. The Greens can't win in most seats and LDs have almost maxxed out.

I hope Starmer works cross-party with the Lib Dems on things like social care because a) they've got good ideas and b) I think it's in everyone's interests that those seats stay Lib Dem in five year's time. It ensures they've got a reliable coalition partner if they lose an overall majority.

As an aside, it’s been underreported that the Lib Dems held on to every one of their massive by-election wins in once-safe Conservative seats. Unprecedented. Going forward this is bad news for the Tories. They’re not going to be able to shift the LDs out of the GE seats taken from them.

I should say there will be a day when mainstream media and politicians realise it's the most important issue. Very little one nation conservatism left. The party leadership is likely to be taken by a right-winger. It will take a major climatic shift before the Tories accepts it's an urgent issue.

I doubt most of their voters see themselves as left-wing. They knew they were merely electing a voice for the environment. They knew the Tories would lose. It was a free hit hit to send a message. The environment should not be seen as a left-wing issue. There will be a day when it is the only issue.

One amusing thing which you may not have seen was the Returning Officer in Mid Sussex read out the result wrong meaning we thought the Tory candidate only had 10%. It was an LD gain anyway.
