There is also every reason to think that this court will expand Trump v. U.S in his second term to extend immunity to those doing his bidding. I.e., “Our holding in Trump v. U.S. demands that government officials be able to enact the will of the executive without fear of criminal proceedings.”

About a dozen people showed up for the impromptu cat tour, led by John Edwards, who organizes the yearly event, seven years ago. Over a two-mile walk, the group stopped to see some 20 cats peeking through their windows. Now, hundreds of people attend.

For some reason quicksand was like, a major perceived threat among my friends and I when I was a kid in the '80s. This was in suburban Southern California, mind you. Solid pavement. IDK if this was a local thing, or if there was some cultural factor at work (movies or whatever).

The 14th Amendment says if you were involved in an insurrection you can't be president. SCOTUS said they won't allow anyone to enforce that because of reasons they made up. The Constitution doesn't say the president is immune from criminal law. SCOTUS decided he is because of reasons they made up.

I'm neither a lawyer nor a law student, but I'd think con law would be easy to teach now: just have the students close their eyes and describe the vibes they feel about a case, then have them break up into teams for Calvinball. (sarcasm)

saying this is NOT the same thing as saying that the situation is no big deal and everything will be fine - but the truth is, when things look really bad, ceding defeat before you've actually been *defeated* is a completely useless strategy.

This Originalist™ court has effectively immunized both the president and all federal law enforcement officers from any meaningful accountability. Because if there are two things the Founders cherished, it's the power of a king-like executive and armed agents of the government to act with impunity.

I, for one, am looking forward to MTG, Boebert and Gaetz being given the power to employ their notable expertise on everything from pollution standards, food/drug safety and financial regulations in place of some deep state bureaucrats with actual expertise in these areas.

Under this ruling, could Congress put explicit language in a statute like "This section cedes authority to Agency X to interpret ambiguities in this statute as well as authority to apply the principals of this statute to unforeseen situations" or something?

I live in rural WY and I follow several different local newspapers and radio stations on FB to keep informed. It is appalling how regularly the comments on any post mentioning a person or business moving to WY from another state are filled with that same xenophobic "Get out, outsider" mentality.

Not sure why I didn't use the one I built...I can only assume it was due to laziness and I didn't want to add the features needed for a threaded message board instead of a flat guestbook.

Oddly, I DID use a library instead of reinventing the wheel on the later site...for a photo album (I wrote the top-level script, but used functions from a CGI library), and also for a discussion board for my Latin class. I DO remember using a pre-made drop-in for the Latin class.

why are THESE the two guys who are most electable I've stopped watching the debate but yikes. Don't get me wrong...Biden is clearly a much better choice than Trump. I just wish, that out of 300+ million Americans, the two parties could find better candidates.

I even had regex's to strip HTML tags from messages posted to my guestbook, with a flag that could override that. I assume that was incase I wanted to post HTML as the "admin" but IDK because I don't see anywhere that flag was unset.

I made a full-on file structure to separate records and fields. $fs = chr(28); # Field Separator, ASCII character 28. $rs = chr(30); # Record Separator, ASCII character 30. "Don't reinvent the wheel" my CS profs said. Me: Hahaha!

Maybe it didn't work or I never finished it? Looks complete at first glance. IDK. Anyway, proud of myself that I hashed the password instead of storing it plaintext. Sobbing that the password file was apparently stored inside the webroot directory.

Looking through old files and I just found that time in college in 2001 I wrote a whole-@$$ set of website backend CGI scripts from scratch in Perl including a blog and guestbook. Like. You'd think I'd remember doing something like that. But no, that had slipped my mind!!

Just got off a call with Audit where I had to re-explain my explanation of a not-a-key-control report that I sent a year ago. I know how computers work, but somehow it still gives me a warm fuzzy feeling when I can re-run a report a year later, or add on a control total and it just...matches.

Look, I'm not going to bribe you, okay? That would be illegal. If, however, you *just so happen* to do the thing my lobby is asking for, then, after the fact, I will be very grateful and will send you a gratuity. Which is perfectly legal and in no way a bribe.
