We went and saw the Pharaoh exhibit at the National Gallery of Victoria and two things grabbed me. First, everything is on loan from the British Museum, so yeah, that. But also: about 1300bce or so, someone did a sketch of their donkey on a bit of limestone & here it still is, being Art.

1. Mediocre art is one of the steps on the path to good art. 2. So? Is there only finite space for art? Do we have to erase Monet because someone painted a mediocre garden pic? 3. Art doesn't have to be great, it just has to do something for someone's heart and soul, including the creator's.
