Got the clearance to return to jury duty today, and we were promptly told we weren't needed today. Which is good because I have also discovered that post-COVID "I've been standing/walking for more than 5 minutes and I feel like I'm going to sleep for a month now" fatigue

This Originalistâ„¢ court has effectively immunized both the president and all federal law enforcement officers from any meaningful accountability. Because if there are two things the Founders cherished, it's the power of a king-like executive and armed agents of the government to act with impunity.

Folks overfocus on the "what if drone strike opponent" question, but it seems to me the more relevant one is "what if President asks CIA to bug opponent's headquarters". Which normal people would correctly identify as a criminal action, and which, as I read this ruling, would be an official act.

To me, this is the actual ruling. The ruling isn't that they can do anything. It's that the courts will be the final arbiters of whether what they did counts as an official act. And ultimately these same six ghouls determine whether any act is "official"

I wore my mask into court & into the jury room when we got sent in there. But if we had snacks I'd remove my mask while eating. Eventually one of the other jurors came in with COVID and no mask, 14 of us sitting around a table, I take mine off for a bit to eat a donut or an apple, go home with COVID

I've felt for a long time that politics and sports journalism both got boiled down to their absolute worst parts in and by talk radio. I'd always assumed the direction of influence was the other way but never had a good reason for that

I wasn't clear. Both have airs of "please acknowledge that I am an intellectual" but my description of how was only directed at Klein. Yglesias does so by being contrary and condescending while Klein does so by "creating space for conversation" where none is needed.

Both Klein and (especially) Yglesias present this air of "I am an intellectual, please acknowledge it" though in different ways. This is in contrast to, say, Bouie, who starts with a set of principles and argues from there - admitting when he's wrong, but not retreating for the sake of conversation

He very much has that thing where he wants to demonstrate that he is open to the conversation and is not an ideologue and really started to embody this view from nowhere intellectualism. One of the things I've always liked about Bouie is that he comes off as just "he is who he says he is"

I felt like Klein got better after the split for a while but started doing more and more stuff that felt very "just asking questions" but from the (center) left. For a while I really liked his interview style but he kind of disappeared into a haze of credulity that put me off.

I caught COVID last week (for the first time!) because we had started keeping snacks in the jury room (which we had been spending HOURS in every day) and so my mask was rarely on in the jury room for the entire time. One of those "good idea, not panacea" things.

Tomorrow is literally Day 5 of my quarantine. So far our family's quarantine process has worked - no one else has gotten sick. And my symptoms have been VERY mild and almost entirely gone. But still feels like, I dunno, not the best way to handle this when we have an alternative. 4/4

...I haven't been offered a chance to continue via zoom. Not have they just said all the jurors will just zoom in. Instead the county health office is calling me tomorrow morning to see if I'm symptomatic and if I've tested and I will probably be ordered back to court along with everyone else. 3/x

Which they did eventually do. The next day after I called out with COVID as well, which would have taken the jury down to the bare 12 members - and I get the impression that that only happened because I did not ask to be excused entirely and offered to join via Zoom. But... 2/x

The wild thing for me was when one juror called out with COVID and the court reacted by offering masks if people wanted them and reminding us to monitor our health. I kept expecting them to send us home for a few days to make sure more jurors didn't get sick. 1/x

Oh, also be sure to always explain in very basic terms who these outside experts are and why their additional input is needed. If the consultant does something insane, like gesturing to the employee during a meeting and saying "Exactly! They get it!" be sure to take a very important phone call.

Look, you can never ever take the advice of a person that's done it before. Otherwise you won't be being a disruptor or something. You hire those people in the hopes that they'll agree with what you already decided. If they don't, hire consultants and hope they do. If they don't, ignore all of them.

He balked at a single-payer healthcare plan in the state. He has been overly cozy with big tech because he's been counting on their tax dollars instead of working to reform the state's broken property tax system. And the GOP knows every personal secret of his prior to his split with Guilfoyle.
