sort of half convinced swapping out Harris would be a marginal increase in Dem chances, but I am extremely sure that being stuck in this discourse for the rest of the campaign would be ruinous
It still seems insane that people are calling for Biden to drop out rather than the DNC working to push is comms team out. They own the performance as much as him. Also, the debate was June… it’s unhinged discourse.
As promised; Day 1: 🤔 Which #officialact powers has Joe Biden used TODAY to stop Mango Hitler ll and bring the corrupt SCOTUS 6 to heel? 🫥 Answer: NOT A ONE. 😳🤬🤬🤬 In fact, he stated he will NOT to use them although he acknowledges Trump will if elected. 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥 WTF
the other thing though is that the NYT would FOR SURE come up with some anti-Harris narrative and beat it to absolute death for the rest of the campaign
this is my feeling. I think biden can win. I don't think can win if the press is out to report on every flub and keep this story. its going to depress democrats so fucking much.
The collapse of confidence is snowballing. You can't have major party figures going on TV saying this and win.
It's an asymmetry: one coalition sees the President as a vehicle for accomplishing policy goals, and tolerates extreme deficiencies to win. The other doesn't understand what is important
I think the difference between this and the "but the emails" thing is that many normie Democrats are more open to Biden going. Even my MSNBC-addled parents are not vociferously defending Biden!
Seems risky to openly admit "OK, we were lying to the country for years when we insisted Biden was sharp as a tack, no hard feelings, here's someone else we definitely wouldn't lie to you about."
Would help if he just said "Look, I'm not quitting" to end the Discourse though.
Even if on paper there are better candidates--because of course there are--it's the wrong call now.
R's would spin it as a sign of weakness, and the media would follow suit. D's gotta' double down, support the incumbent. It's the only path forward.
It really shouldn't matter who the Democratic candidate is, as only an insane person would vote for Trump despite believing that doing so risked the end of democracy. Clearly not enough people think so, but then I can't see how a candidate swap heightens the sense of urgency?
The fact we are even discussing this tells me Trump is going to win.
The magats don't do this. Trump could murder a bus load of nuns, and they will circle the wagons and support him even MORE.
Democrats continue to act like this is just another election.
It will cost us dearly.
If the leaked internal polling is (a) for real (it appears to be) and (b) at all close to reality (who knows?), then you’re correct, and Whitmer, Buttigieg, and Newsom fare even better. Worth a hard look at these numbers, because apparently Dem insiders are.
