i get even more annoyed about it because dean phillips was right there. dean phillips was the centrist corporate loser that all these centrist corporate losers wanted, he ran an actual campaign, he got absolutely annihilated. that’s not evidence of malfeasance, that’s evidence of no interest

And, of course, the punditocracy will simply focus on the "weakness" and every other thing it can find about the replacement because they just are not going to focus on Trump. Ever. Justifying that everything "baked in."

I'm curious: in what world does changing a political candidate in July result in winning when 1) the majority of Democrats voted FOR Biden in primaries, 2) the DNC has actual rules about party nominations, and the punditocracy seems wholly unaware of that, and 3) it signals nothing but weakness.

I’m convinced Biden’a going to do a fine, not great but totally fine interview, and Biden world is going to declare victory. I’m really worried it won’t be enough, but they’ll view it as enough

I think the worst - and most likely - case for this TV interview is that Biden goes out and does fine not great, not knocking it out of the park, but not badly enough for his team to throw in the towel so his team thinks he did enough to stay in and the deluge of leaks continues

The Wisconsin one I listened to was a softball interview in the category of "fine". Not great, not terrible, just didn't do anything to dislodge the memory of the debate as a true one-off.

in what universe is “worst tory defeat in history” not a landslide, man, what is “sort-of” about that, and what are the conditions which would upgrade from “sort-of” to “landslide”? this kind of deliberate obfuscation isn’t exactly the same thing as lying, but it’s closer to lying than anything else

I assume they want to make it feel like the march of the far right globally cannot be stopped, and that if *this* election in Britain isn't a landslide, there's no hope for Biden and Democrats this fall.

That it took more than a week for him to come out and even try to do a damage control sit-down is absurd, too. This should have been next day.

The interview will probably be fine. But what's that going to accomplish? For one thing, it's a much smaller audience than the debate. But even if he does great, showing he's *sometimes* with it isn't the problem. He has to show he's always or at least nearly always OK, and that's impossible.

Yup, this is it. They're giving it a few days to play out, for acceptance to sink in that this isn't getting turned around, for him to take his one last futile swing at it. White House has basically already telegraphed it's radical change this week or he's done, and radical change ain't happening.

I think you’re overlooking two things: 1) It became clear post-debate that Biden’s staff had been less than transparent about his fitness for office; 2) Biden and his inner circle didn’t just botch the debate — they also failed abysmally at damage control.

Getting a bit frustrating to see people on here say over and over again “why doesn’t Biden just use his new power under Trump v US to appoint 4 new SCOTUS justices and then they can fix everything?” I don’t want to defend Trump v US, but people owe it to themselves to understand why it’s bad.
