I’m seeing lots of fishermen complain that there’s “more sharks than ever,” so I made a quick guide to what things look like if you zoom out a little.

Pretty neat seeing 8 European Bee-Eaters (Merops apiaster) just 5 mins away from home, here in Aberdeenshire!
Not the sharpest of snaps as they were quite a distance away, however always nice to get record shots!
The last time we had one stick around for a while was 1995!!

🦈 🦈 In my element! Hanging out with Tiger Sharks!
It doesn’t get any better than this!
I actually find it difficult to articulate just how much i love being in the water with sharks, suffice to say it’s a privilege and it’s where i feel most alive!

🧪 🦑 👋 A remora detaches from its Tiger Shark & comes over to check out its reflection in my camera dome!
ℹ️ Remoras have modified dorsal fins which create an oval shape with slat-like structures that open & close to create suction, enabling them to sucker on & hitch a ride with their chosen shark! 🦈

🦈 It has been exactly one week since i did my first dive at Little Bahama Bank aka “Tiger Beach”, an area approx 11,000 km2, shallow waters (6-15m) surrounded on all sides by the deep (>500m) waters of the subtropical NW Atlantic.

Mostly recovered from land (the seals will stay on the beach for prolonged periods when moulting) & can be recovered provided the aerial is ok! I was checking on this as a BDMLR (British Divers Marine Life Rescue) medic, tag attached by Sea Mammal Research Unit (SMRU) 👍

🧪 🦑 🦭 This Grey Seal Pup has a telemetry tag attached to her. The tag is glued to the seals fur, which detaches when the seals undergo their annual moult.
This tag tracks the seals activity as well as logging other data which informs a variety of research & marine spatial planning.
