I grew up in a neighborhood that set off periodic fireworks basically from Memorial Day through Labor Day, with obvious concentration on the 4th. It was mostly fine, but then the last few years they were doing M-80s every single night. It was so bad.

Mom and I were walking home in the rain when we heard some cracking. We paused to look at a tree, wondering if it was a branch over a roof, then heard more cracking and decided to run. This bad boy missed us by about 4 feet.

I mean I think it's also like fear that you can recognize a cis man but you can't always recognize that a person is trans. The traumatized black and white thinking is troubled by it so you become obsessive in "being able to tell" (of course you can't).

There's something about the traumatizing aspect--which is what often makes folks involved in certain arms of supporting survivors/the survivors who encounter terfs (and I think JKR is one of them?)--that makes them literally insane. Like they are so hypervigilant, it's like probably clinical

I think there is also a critique some folks are making about political action being wholly contained in voting, and that voting in a lot of cases demobilizes people from taking more action, at least from the perspective of folks doing non-electoral work.
