I genuinely didn't think a major party's campaign could be this bad at a technical level. I've covered a lot of campaigns that have bad ideas, but not 'we did a rally, basically on our YouTube, with our last election winner looking like a corpse, after the ten o'clock news'.
They did, however, remember to text Nicholas Watt on Newsnight about it, so it got dissected on there. I hope Ayesha Hazarika’s eyeballs have recovered from rolling them that hard after the clip aired…
This is also a day after Sunak went on the attack about Starmer's 'lack of work ethic' for leaving the office at 6. Why would you then remind people about the notoriously lazy ex-PM? It's incoherent.
The Tories have entered the “playing pontoon at the poker table” phase of the campaign.

“He’s still got it, he rhymed Corbynistas with Putinistas! You know, “Putinistas” that common expression that everyone absolutely uses. Campaign dynamite!”
Remember when the reports of Sunak potentially just checking out in the middle of the campaign came out a couple of weeks ago and people nodded and went, "yeah, that could actually happen"?
"Remember this guy? Remember how he started merely unpopular and ended up widely loathed? Well, he represents our glory days! Vote for us, and someone we think is worse than him will be Prime Minister"
Previous incarnation of Doctor Who brought back for a special cameo even though he's clearly not up to it and only the worst men thought any of his 6-parters were "classic"
