In a functioning democracy third party candidates wouldn't be kept off the ballot and out of the debates.

Every politician who touts the “rule of law” as justification of punishment without justifying the ethics or morality of the laws is an authoritarian.
Got it?

You’re posting nonsense. Every politician in power in the US is an authoritarian. The US has more prisoners than any country in world history. Joe Biden’s 1994 drug laws, which he wrote, made that possible.

If you’re going to quote Wikipedia, use the whole quote.
“Authoritarianism is a political system characterized by the rejection of political plurality, the use of strong central power to preserve the political status quo, and reductions in democracy, separation of powers, and the rule of law.”

Also, the communist parties of Russia, China and North Korea (among others) are left-wing authoritarian parties/governments.
If you guys are going to insist on arguing, try to learn about what you’re arguing first, FFS.

They brought up Trump in the first two posts. I pointed out that his opposition is also authoritarian.
Libertarianism has both left and right wings. In fact, the word was coined by Joseph Déjacque, a French political journalist who used the term to describe himself. He was an anarcho-communist.

Up is the opposite of down
Left is the opposite of right
Authoritarianism is the opposite of libertarianism
I even specified “small L” and you went off talking about the political party anyway.

I said “small L”.

I’m waiting for enough other people to figure it out. Until then, they’re for defense.
Let me know when your party saves you from the far right. 🙃

That goes for both parties. There are no libertarians (small L) in congress.

The corruption is right there & you just refuse to see it.
2 parties owned by Wall St. It’s an oligarchy. The elections are placebos. And the politicians repeatedly tell you what’s going on, but you refuse to even hear it.
You are the problem. You deserve to lose.

And you guys are sitting by and watching while a beautiful country and planet is ravaged by your own party, fearmongering about the other party doing exactly the same thing. You deserve to lose.

And you guys will continue to be flabbergasted by every Manchin or Sinema, blame everybody but yourselves and your party, never question your party’s loyalty to *you*, and rage-post on social media angry about the people on the actual left who won’t get in line.
Should be fun. Good luck.

I ran for congress twice as an independent, so my conscience is clear. I tried a lot harder than you, for sure.
But now I have a child to protect so I’m moving out of this shithole. You libs can keep clutching your rulebooks and crying about decorum while your party lets the far right eat you alive

This is like saying that poor people advocating for taxing the rich is “class warfare” as if the rich haven’t been winning class warfare already for decades.
Electoralism doesn’t work in oligarchies or fascist states. That’s where we actually are. Act accordingly.

They also don’t like it when you point out that the 68,000 Americans who die every year for lack of affordable health insurance (pre-Covid) are already victims of political violence. As are everybody in Palestine, everybody dying in climate catastrophes, etc.

I’m old enough to remember when they avoided giving Joe Biden a cognitive test during his 2020 campaign and he and his campaign said it was because he didn’t need one (despite much public evidence to the contrary).
I’d rather have a president with diabetes (or anything else) than one with dementia.

“authoritarianism in the United States is often discussed in terms of who will win the White House in November. What’s happened in the last few years under both Democratic and Republican leadership at the local, state, and federal level shows the need to hold all parties accountable.”

I’m usually against the Death Penalty. But this man should be handcuffed in a room with a dozen childhood sexual abuse survivors and an assortment of hand tools.
Churches accuse drag queens of this stuff because they’re trying to draw the attention away from themselves.

Anyway… 4 years ago, when Trump had Covid right after his debate with Biden, I ended up on Fox News for saying that I hoped Covid would do the world a favor and take out both presidential candidates. Some people got upset.
But was I wrong?

The replies to this (so far) are pretty dumb. The quote is spot-on and so is the article as a whole.
People are arguing against windmills at this point.
America is the most successfully propagandized population on earth and the fact that they believe they aren’t only goes to prove they are.
