ALL EYES ON RAFAH
PALESTINIAN LIBERATION IS TIKKUN OLAM
I’m opening poetry commissions this month so I can pay utilities ($100) as I continue job searching.
NOTE:
Please first prioritize your own survival needs, as well as funds towards Palestinians, before commissioning me.
Thank you!

Things I’ve been emotional about now I’m not homeless:
- access to a bathroom sink
- not having to sleep on a broken loveseat
- the fear of neighbors calling the treyf on me has lessened
- access to a working oven
Kicker is my old place sat empty the WHOLE YEAR I was homeless

I’m still technically away.
After nearly a year of being homeless, I’m getting housing this week! So my focus is on that.
In the meantime, please check out @gazafunds.bsky.social (refreshes to a new GFM when you visit) ⬇️

Sending my support to the Gaza Solidarity Encampment at the UMN (Twin Cities campus)!
It’s one of the colleges I attended years ago.
Since I’m not residing in the same state anymore, I’m there with you all in spirit!

Towards the end of the article is Mohammad Saleh’s translated poem, “She tripped in beauty (…)”
Please take the time to read Saleh’s words
May he rest peacefully / may his memory be a blessing / may his memory be for liberation

Today is the last day U.S. hospitals will be required to report COVID admissions, capacity, or occupancy data to the federal government.
This will make it even more difficult to track the state of the ongoing COVID pandemic, as well as monitor potential pandemics like bird flu.

When it comes to this Freydis Moon situation we should at all times be centering the queer and trans Latinx book community who affected the most. We should also be centering Freydis's victims. This is not the time to get on your self-righteous self-congratulatory soap box.

Every person has the right to wear a mask.
There are many good reasons for doing so: COVID, airborne pathogens, sickness, privacy, surveillance, allergies, work etc.
No one should ever have to explain or justify why they are wearing a mask — that’s none of your business.

No one should ever be harassed or attacked for wearing a mask and businesses should never prohibit employees from wearing a mask to protect themselves.
For public health, workers' rights, and human rights reasons, governments should implement laws that protect everyone's right to wear a mask.

I acknowledge the apology from Ian & Mason Jar Press.
I don’t know if it’ll ever include forgiveness.
At every point, the outcome could’ve been different.
Poets smarter than myself state that to be a poet is to be a witness, and to that extension, so should a literary press.

Yesterday, Mason Jar Press finally released an official statement about the ongoing genocide that Palestinians are facing.
This comes two months after my open letter (where I ended my author contract), and after writer Maya Salameh turned down the 1729 Book Prize.
Disappointing, to say the least.

Last week I distributed the last 34 copies of, “A Prayer For A Non-Religious Autistic” (former publisher) to Little Free Libraries.
My books came in the mail 2 days before Small Press Distribution closed.
Why document this?
Getting a book published is a Life Event - even if it’s at an end.

SPD going down is truly horrible. The presses they distributed are screwed out of money and also out of their print runs already in the works. I keep saying how difficult publishing is and it's just gotten so much harder. Distribution is KEY.

Your Little Free Library is inaccessible if…
- it’s inside a building (& is locked “after hours”)
- you have to use stairs to access it
- you install a nearby camera
- there’s no way to protect the books from the elements
*examples are from observing many Little Free Libraries

When I am overcome
by despair
I try to remember back
to the early days and months
of the pandemic
when imperfect as it was
so many people acted
as if they understood
that we are in this together
yes, I try to remember that
but my despair answers
“and then what happened?”

4 years ago today, the WHO declared COVID a pandemic.
Today, we will rightfully remember the tens of millions of people who have died.
We must never forget.
But we must also remember COVID is still killing, disabling, and excluding too many.
We are still in a pandemic. We still need to act.

Poetry community, what are your fave poems:
1. Set in & are explicitly about the early years (2020-2022) of the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic
2. By poz poets written during the height of the AIDS epidemic (1980s & 1990s)
This is part of my lifelong self-education path as a poet.
