the climate story right now is in a very weird state of flux a) the warming we've priced in is bad and really starting to show itself b) the renewable story is astoundingly good and getting better we are left with "warming is going to get worse but almost certainly not as much as it could have"

It's unfortunate that BDB abandoned police reform. But, in fairness, he only did so after the police publicly threatened his family. Also, some of his early reforms actually stuck, so some progress was made.

Particularly in terms of climate change, any small step toward fixing the problem *buys time*. We don’t have time? Then we damn well better do literally anything we can get done NOW that will stretch out the time we have, unless someone has a ready-to-go whole solution that can be implemented today!

Her incompetency is an upgrade, though, it's true. Because the legislature is mostly willing to cosign and enable things that don't suck (now that the IDC is dead). So her personal incompetency mostly impacts her worst impulses.

Analysis: Alito portrays himself as so meekly subordinate to his wife’s dominion that he won’t act to remove an insurrection flag he objects to from their house for days w/o her consent. But he also asserts no reasonable person could question the independence of his judgment on insurrection matters.

saw sort of an interesting question on twitter about what dems are doing to counter project 2025, and i think maybe people don’t realize the answer is just “win the election”. the papers heritage have produced make clear that they think 2025 is their last, best shot at accomplishing their goals.

Anyway, the Donnelly Public Library in ID has become "adults only" thanks to their frankly fascist book banning state law. We are already losing to idiots. Our institutions are not durable enough to withstand them. I have to believe our collective action could be enough, but it's the minimum now.

for the record: there were no black people who fought for the confederacy and to the extent that there were black slave owners post-1800 they were almost exclusively people who purchased loved ones for freedom
