Pretty sure that there was an easy way to disable this feature on a page I manage, but it's going to have hilarious results if this can't be turned off on politician's pages, amongst others.

The worst part of neither Doocey nor Luxon bothering to read this report is that they are about to begin a new cycle of abuse in care with bootcamps.

I guess ultimately what this means is a few years' delay in progressing recommendations from the FfLG review while we await a change of government.

"This evidence I don't like is ideology" says the minister who for vibes-based reasons is also forcing local government to reverse locally-supported evidence-based speed limit reductions.

"The draft Land Transport Rule amounts to forcing communities, against their wishes, to accept more deaths and serious injuries on neighbourhood streets and around schools. It’s this law change that should be reversed, not our safe speed zones."

This is interesting in light of the 'more cops' refrain we hear every election cycle in NZ. Is there anything we can learn from this?

Bernard Hickey on fire this morning - “it has emerged the National-ACT-NZ First Government decided to cut wages for disabled workers from the minimum wage to $2 an hour to help pay for the tax cuts that will see 64% of the benefits go to the richest 40% of the population.”

The redevelopment of Oxford Tce is proof enough that creating walkable spaces in this city is enough to attract custom. Unless we want a stadium in a wasteland with few connections, the street upgrades are necessary. 6/n

"...local communities thought slower speed limits would lead to higher retail spending or fewer children being run over. Once again, that was the wrong opinion. The government is now stepping in to reverse every speed limit that has been lowered since 2020."

In NZ, parl got ventilation upgrades whilst removing public health measures for everyone else. The current govt has flatly refused to address indoor air quality on a national level. But feel free to send your kids to school sick and soldier on with seymourephedrine.

Future generations will not thank us for building a bunch of expensive new motorways that lock in transport and urban development patterns that increase costs over the long term while our existing water and public transport networks crumble. We need to get serious on this stuff.

Speed limit reductions were council and NZTA decisions, backed by science, consulted on, discussed in local communities. Why is Simeon Brown so insistent that his ideology is more important than local decision-making and has the power to change physics? We deserve safer speeds! #nzpol 🚲🇳🇿🚸

For NZers unless you're terminally online you may not know how bad the UK is for trans people now. Here Badenoch explicitly says they followed a strategy of placing gender-critical/TERFy people in important positions to erode LGBTQIA+ rights.

I agree with LGNZ, that Māori wards and constituencies should be treated like all other wards and that decisions should be made at the council level. Polls aren’t required on any other wards or constituencies, and requiring them will add increased costs to councils. Five days to submit!?
