"Seatbelts, air bags and other safety features protect us when we travel in cars. When we’re *not* in cars, we rely on a safe street environment to prevent and mitigate crashes. Snatching away safe speed limits is as unthinkable as taking away our seatbelts." A great piece by Christina Robertson.

Show us the evidence and analysis, Simeon Brown, or be prepared to face scrutiny for spreading misinformation and falsehoods to the people of Aotearoa. The facts are clear: international peer-reviewed evidence, wisdom, and best practices all support the benefits of lowering speed limits.

Crime the crown legalised & continue imo.

“Would that be the reaction if we weren’t talking about Māori land? If we were talking about the property rights of Pākehā landowners? Where are all the “one law for all” warriors when it comes to laws that only disadvantage Māori?” #NZpol

Of all the baffling ideas this govt is pursuing, this one’s a doozy *even by their own lights*: a cost-benefit review of safe speed zones around schools found they’re <checks notes> 45x better for the economy than Simeon Brown’s strictly-school-gate notion!

Typical.🤦
"... It’s terrible for road safety, undermines pretty much any action to reduce transport emissions, disempowers local government from being able to design internationally proven and locally supported best-practice solutions, and makes accessing funding a bureaucratic nightmare ..."

A huge challenge confronting those in charge of finalising the ten-year transport plan for Tāmaki Makaurau:

"threading the needle between a) what Aucklanders tell them they actually want and need, and b) what Simeon Brown (also an Aucklander) is telling them they’re permitted to do." #nzpol

When will we see action from this government on far right groups using threats to force community events to close? Will it only be when one of them takes the call of "time to kill" literally? thespinoff.co.nz/society/02-0...

And quite honestly, those who have been and are being pushed out of KO should be held up as heroes. They achieved so much under Labour-led Governments who understood that KO's 'core role' is building homes and communities where New Zealanders can thrive.

So now what we figured "controlling debt" at Kainga Ora meant, is out in the open: "The future is for no net housing growth." "The government has been very clear. They want it to go back predominantly to its 'core role' [my emphasis] as a landlord." Good on Kāinga Ora new chair for speaking truth.

NZ Ministers have removed expectation that Government agencies will act like good citizens. Pushing idea government is a business and no more. Missed opportunity to require agencies to be good and inclusive role models for a better Aotearoa New Zealand. #nzpol

Sorry, Sophie, I'm not sure I understood your reply. The magical thinking I was referring to was this Government's tendency to sternly and repeatedly demand outcomes they've removed every resource from achieving. As if it will happen by magic.

Don't panic! Our prescient finance & transport ministers have this covered. Once a desktop study into having a salvage tug is completed, that document can be used to free the ferry! Just the document mind, there's not a chance they'll fund an actual tug. #nzpol

From back in December:

www.newshub.co.nz/home/politic...

Newshub asked the Finance Minister if she'll resign.

"No… This was a decision made by Cabinet, and it was the right decision for New Zealand," she replied.

"The draft Land Transport Rule amounts to forcing communities, against their wishes, to accept more deaths and serious injuries on neighbourhood streets and around schools. It’s this law change that should be reversed, not our safe speed zones."

What do we call Brain Drain when it's actively facilitated by our govt? Skill Squandering? Smart Sharting?

Good luck to every single person who moves away to a job where they get treated with decency.

Luxon’s talk about helping with the cost of living crisis can be chalked up as another lie in the deluge of lies.

They’ve cut public services and also made the cost of living crisis worse for families - it’s not just increased tax, it’s public transport, rates, prescription fees. #NZpol
