I do captioning for a living, & a big part of my job is cleaning up false starts & filler words. That has always been the norm at every media outlet. Print media edits Trump so carefully that you would never know what he actually sounds like. Doing this to Biden is a 180 from decades of policy.

Superman not being afraid of something isn’t much of a flex. “Oh cool, Kal. That’s awesome that the invulnerable man isn’t afraid of the unknown. How about kryptonite? Are you afraid of this frickin’ chunk of kryptonite??”

All credit to Taraji P Henson for using her platform to publicize how dangerous Project 2025 is, I’m sure the spike in googling it after the BET Awards has some people shaken.

Funny how freedom for evangelical Christians means discrimination and punishment for families who don’t share their view of the world. Like how Alberta’s dedication to “parental rights” explicitly tramples over the rights trans kids and their parents 😡

I would call it ironic, but irony is supposed to be the opposite of what you’d expect and this is pretty much what I consider standard these days.

We could always assume that Chef David was such a traumatizing experience for him that all of the other restaurants feel better by comparison. Like, he has at least ONE nice memory of Keller! Also, Keller’s near the beginning of his career, when he expects to eat shit. David was just last year.

Just so we're clear, "canada's wildfires" are in fact everyone's problem, because the climate conditions making wildfires so severe are global (particularly industrialized nations) in their causes and sources. You CAN blame Canada. But you also need to blame Exxon and Shell and BP et al.

Our views of Keller and David are filtered through Carmy’s memories. He remembers a warm interaction with Keller on his first day, but he has PTSD from his time in David’s kitchen. We don’t get an objective assessment of any of the restaurants Carmy’s worked in—only what he’s taken from them.

just to get all process-y for a minute: a reason that media publlications don't operate at the speed of X or Reddit is that reporting - gathering information, assessing credibility, reviewing source documents, talking to people, checking facts, getting comment - takes longer than "big if true"

We saw a nice dose of this in the US during the height of the pandemic when people didn’t care if the elders died. How they are useless, vapid and have no purpose, by definition. “Get out of the way, make room for me, a younger person”. Our elders! Remember?? I do.

Americans have a real problem with older people and the concept of aging. The culture is rife with ageism. It’s going to official bite us in the ass if we don’t address it. Wow.

95% of it are people who thought Oxford’s anti-congestion project with its zones and fees was a lockdown that physically barred people from leaving their neighbourhood. And no amount of fact-based rebuttals will change their minds. It comes from the same swamp as “schools are grooming kids.”

I like how the city literally added a note to the zoning plan saying it couldn’t be used to restrict movement in order to mollify these freaks, and they immediately countered with, “IT DOESN’T EXPLICITLY SAY THAT I CAN DRIVE MY CAR ANYWHERE I WANT TO! THEY’RE COMING FOR OUR CARS!!”

Ugh. I have to physically tap the body of my wireless earbuds to work them. My favourite is 1 tap to pause, 2 taps to make it quieter and 3 taps to make it louder—I’m targeting something I can’t see, so the music keeps pausing and getting quieter when I try to increase volume 😆

This is like the peculiar 21st century Canadian habit of fantasizing that the governor-general or lieutenants-governor will block your political opponents from forming government, “for the good of the nation/province.” Technically possible, literally never going to happen.
