Comics, cactus, and canaries. Ok, maybe not canaries. Comics, cactus, and ravens.

Because there isn't one. Other than single-payer, all the alternatives are going to look like the ACA to the average voter.

SSI really does need to be updated, and it'd be nice if R politicians understood that; I suspect many of their constituents have a family member on SSI so fixing it should be a bipartisan issue.

But politicians like to remain in power, so an informed electorate can keep the regulations and safety net in place. Definitely lots of room for improvement in the current US version, but the system itself is fairly stable.

I think a lot about what happens when systems fail; or, with economic and political systems, what happens when the people in power are absurdly selfish. In a democracy with regulated capitalism and a safety net, powerful non-politicians will want to weaken both the regulations and safety net.

Okay I know I keep pitching this outdated book but really it's good look at how this works in the media. Following a narrative is much, much easier than doing original reporting, and so they do that

Or there has been a change in who is answering polls, or a fraction of the people answering them are giving intentionally wrong answers. Hopefully the campaign's internal polling is more accurate.

people keep telling me i'm wrong but any change to the ticket raises substantial litigation risk. i don't care if you think a pledged delegate can switch affiliations after the primary but before the convention and, more importantly, Sam Alito sure as hell doesn't care what you think.

Puppies. Definitely puppies. Kittens I can resist (barely, but allergies win), but I can't resist puppies. For non-live bait, books on obscure subjects, or maybe some albums from Windham Hill or with an organ on front, would definitely get me to take a closer look.

I want people to internalize just how bad it was before the ACA. You might claim that the ACA was "worse than nothing", but those who went through hell before know just how much better off we are now.

Ah, FB memories serving up some winners. This is what an itemized $1,330,000 NICU hospital bill looks like (only 96 days to get there). The apple is there for scale. Here’s why I share it. Too many ppl don’t know abt lifetime caps and pre-existing bans. Bc the STILL-VULNERABLE ACA banned them.

This is also a nice reminder that when conservatives say, "Judeo-Christian" they mean "Christian," because you know nobody at Project 2025, including the person who wrote "Judeo-Christian" below, means anything but Sunday when they talk about deciding what people can & should do on the Sabbath.

I’ve said this before but if bears repeating: Your ‘best’ will look different day to day. Some days your best is getting your work done, and other days your best is getting up and putting on clothes. Be patient with your low days… the high days will come again. They always do. 🧡

If were adjusting state borders, I'd start with the Trans-Pecos region of Texas (it is the region south of New Mexicol and west of the Pecos).

Most of its population is in a different time zone than the rest of Texas, and it is reasonably blue.

In sum, folks calling to replace Biden are both wrong on the cognitive science *and* the history. I get it. They're afraid. We're all worried. We often don't make smart choices when we're scared. Let's pause, take a breath, look at the science and expert analyses, instead.

So the more I see of this, the more I respect it. The Cybertruck is so unrelentingly and singularly absurd that the only sane aesthetic response is to heap yet more absurdity on top. This exudes a level of "you're locked in here with me" energy that you don't often get the opportunity to witness.

The NYT Parkinson's "scoop" is even worse than it seems from the headline, bc buried in paragraph 11 the reporters *know* Dr. Connard met with someone other than Biden, and on March 28, 2024 the President's Public Schedule shows Biden was in NYC the whole day

Honestly, I think it depends on the age and type of bumper sticker. As far as sanity goes, having 5 fun & non-political bumper stickers, of various ages, is not the same as having one brand new, (not so) vaguely threatening, pro-gun bumper sticker.
