Party political broadcasts are a thing, but they're not ubiquitous (I presume they're allocated according to regulations), and perhaps not technically the same thing as an advertisement. I'm not sure how those restrictions apply to digital media, however - I got ads for both main parties on YouTube.

I'm sure there are all sorts of reasons for that, but one is that there are special broadcasting guidelines that come into effect on the announcement of an election or referendum, which are more stringent about reporting standards. www.ofcom.org.uk/tv-radio-and...

A lot of the time they don't have a "for anything else press 0" option so I just have to pick the closest thing thematically and apologise to the person I'm put through to, who can hopefully forward me to whoever I should actually be talking to.

Yeah, somewhere north of 90% of the times I try to call a company it's because my problem *doesn't* fit neatly into some node of a flow diagram, and 7 need to talk to a person with actual understanding of the business. An LLM that's been fed the playbook will obviously be no better.

My mum got me Maskerade because she loved the cover (I thought the people looked lumpy and weird). I tried reading it, but couldn't get into it. Maybe a year later a friend got me Reaper Man, and I absolutely loved it. I think I read one or two randomly before starting from The Colour of Magic.
