I think it is wise and productive for people to take seriously the idea we are in a constitutional crisis in America. I don’t think it is wise or productive to assume what happens next is like what happens in semi consolidated or consolidated authoritarian systems.

I need to read more on legal systems in authoritarian states. I’ve seen them operate relatively up close in places like Sudan but never really understood their internal logic. They are obviously corrupt but there is also more nuance than “nothing matters except power.”

One of my real concerns if Trump wins is the emergence of armed neighborhood defense groups and/or ethnic militias. I don’t think we were super far from this in San Diego last time. Take away institutionalized forms of resistance and the situation is way more dangerous.

Hypothetical just to demonstrate the point there's such a line somewhere: five justices decree Methodism is now the official state church and direct district judges to enforce that ruling with injunctions shutting down all other houses of worship. That's not law and compliance is not being a court.

Something I keep thinking about. Let’s say there’s a ruling that just slightly annoys President Trump. He says I’m kicking Robert’s off the court. And I will ignore any SCOTUS rulings until he’s gone. Point being I’m not sure the conservative judges have gamed this all the way out.
