New Manu Chao. Sounds just like a sequel. In a good way.

Caption was supposed to say: Watching the Kendrick Lamar Big Steppers tour in Amazon. Definitely was not expecting the ventriloquist act.

Sorry, folks, this year "no vote" is a vote for fascism, don't be that person, voting is a necessary if not entirely sufficient act

I study this s—t for my job, and I do not think that it is good or healthy for ordinary citizens to have to vote, act, etc., like their rights and perhaps lives are on the line in every election

“Politics would be interesting again,” no politics should not be interesting, normal people should not have to invest time and energy into saving democracy because our institutions are collapsing, give me boring, mundane politics any day

Hi everyone! One *extremely meaningful* thing you can do to fight back is to join library boards. Usually this is an appointed position, not elected. The time commitment for most public library board members is 1-2 hours monthly. I'm a former library director. Ask me anything.

I’m away for the summer. We’ll announce our lineup on Aug 20 and start early September. I’ll start nagging you to book a dog sitter then 🤩

Why is this worthy of posing? Know this about me. I mostly read on phone - short and micro format writing. When I do read books, it’s usually non-fiction and I have many going at once, in various stages of unfinishedness. Yes, ADHD mind. Thanks again whoever sent it to me.

Still don’t know who sent me a physical book, especially one this long. But very happy to say I finished it last night. All 502 pages of it. Beautiful, urgent writing. And such an interesting structure of intersecting narratives, paralleling the intertwined root systems of the communicating forest.

Went in cold (pun half intended) to kick off my visit to Montpellier Danse: Sorour Darabi‘s Mille et Une Nuits - through-conceived & deeply committed performances with a striking aesthetic centered around blocks of ice hanging from chains, ice melting from the heat of lights and non-binary bodies.

Kendrick Lamar teaches us that, in public debate, refuting your opponent's arguments point by point is less effective than identifying your opponent's single greatest weakness and maintaining message discipline.

Another reason I hate winter: Winter gear requires keeping track of a bunch of ACCESSORIES, and I have ADHD - which means I’m trapped in an eternal cycle of losing a single glove or sock or winter hat and being forced to buy new ones, which I will also promptly lose

I mostly yell at lighting designers when they use green light. But somehow for The Smile (and Radiohead) they get away with it. But I must admit I’m waiting the whole show for Everything In Its Right Place.

As a NYer, this argument felt like a slap (in a good way) the first time I heard it. “The South ain't Red, folks. It's suppressed. Don't pray for the South to secede. Ride down here and help fight.”

Revisiting places in Kallithea to search for standbys and Mezeklikia happily makes the cut. Good homemade sausage and pancetta with honey, salad with orange dressing and grilled cheese, fava, and 4€ half liter of house wine, in a mid-century modern vibe. Dinner for 2 with lots of leftovers, 39€.

"The Race of Sound" traces how the voice and its qualities are socially produced. It illustrates how listeners measure race through sound and locate racial subjectivities in vocal timbre—the color or tone of a voice. It looks at singers Marian Anderson, Billie Holiday, and Jimmy Scott:

It only took me 40 minutes (and a summer) to successfully sign up for the Kallithea Municipal Pool. But now I can swim for 3€ a day. I’ve also learned that the difference between and almost Olympic size pool and an Olympic size pool is more than I thought.
