I often do push back, but this need to make sure I wasn’t being too casual. I rarely am, I think I pitch it pretty well these days, but so many academics think it isn’t a paper unless only 4 people can understand it

I work hard these days to make my academic writing clear and accessible and every time I get one reviewer calling it ‘too conversational’ or ‘not professional’. I try to take the note while maintaining my goals but I really think we need a conversation about what good technical writing can look like

People need to learn protest is supposed to be noisy and disruptive, and not genteel and ‘acceptable’. The whole ‘not like that’ vibe from white middle class liberals is very tedious

I think threats to us get categorised as a ‘middle class problem’ or something similar - not important to everyone, which is just wrong and part of the Tory bullshit culture war framing

We’re an easy target I think - we just aren’t top of people’s list of things to defend when health care etc are on the line too so no one pushes back and if they do it gets ignored. So frustrating - universities do so much for the economy and general life of the country
