The thing about Texas is, there are 1000 good reasons to live here. 900 of them relate to nature, others to arts and food.
It’s so heartbreaking that the roughly 12 dimwitted oligarchs who run this place as a private feifdom have made it unsafe for so many people to even travel here.
With respect to texas's nature, every state ive been has beautiful nature in their own ways. And as for food, every region seems to have something special. No comment on art.
Its one of the best parts of the US is the diverse and beautiful geography
If you are black or brown you know there are many KKK, militia members who've always made living in Texas very dangerous.
Allowing them to terrorize has laid the ground for everyone to catch hell.
Moved here about 3 years ago for a TT job. The landscape is lovely, the students thoughtful and interested (if underserved), and the blue skies energize me almost every day. There is a lot to love down here.
And there really aren’t that many of those assholes.
And I don’t mean Greg Abbott and Ken Paxton. Those dipshits are just the trained monkeys who keep the state and its profits in line, and don’t mind killing Texans if their owners demand it.
I’m talking about Dunn, Crow, and a few others.
I'm Texan and that's nothing to be proud of but I'm proud of it anyway, I moved away two years ago and my whole family lives there and I don't know if I'll be able to go visit anymore even. It's beautiful, it's tasty, it's familiar, and it makes me so sad to think of Texas now.
To be fair most of the nature ones are only accessible like the 6 or 7 months a year when you can be outside for more than 5 minutes without heatstroke
At a certain age a sane person from a blue state with certain habits and sensitivities comes to the conclusion that they are never going to visit places they always thought they’d visit, like Austin for instance. Too bad, but nope nope nope.
My son-in-law MAY move family to his TX hometown for career change. Daughter could continue to teach college classes online. Currently living in AZ. Their choice. Will be glad when Abbott is out of Austin.
Was just thinking about how Rick Perry was only mildly embarrassing as governor compared to how bad it's gotten in the past 8 years or so. It really is heartbreaking.
As a Floridian, I feel your pain, but we're outta here. Leaving at the end of June and heading north to Chicago. We've had all the madness we can take, & it's just getting worse. Even my daughter is thrilled to be getting out, which is really sad. She never experienced the Florida I knew.
Getting rid of the oligarchs is a real conundrum. Short of the economy completely collapsing in all sectors (and even then they usually are unscathed), history shows there's really only one way to do it.
