Mississippi is the poorest state in the US.
Even though the state gets federal welfare funds, it is difficult to get welfare.
The money was all getting stolen, and they got away with it.
Now the journalists who exposed the story are facing a lawsuit and jail.

Also, we seem to have lost the plot that the mere fact of spending any time in jail is destructive, as is spending time and money defending yourself from spurious charges. Part of the point of the USA is freedom from imprisonment and persecution, albeit inconsistently applied.

For real, one of the things I like on Facebook (!) is a 30-day mute button. Sometimes people you like go on jags you don’t care about (e.g. some kind of sportsball tournament) and you’d just like to ignore them for a little while.

It's completely ass backwards. The danger of a president committing crimes as an individual is nothing compared to him using the government for criminal ends. The very things that we should be most concerned about a corrupt president doing are the things he can't be punished for.

Biden has been great on climate, filled tons of judicial positions, caused a ginormous resurgence in American manufacturing. He’s actually engaging in antitrust actions. People are no longer choosing between insulin and food. Lots of really good stuff is happening. Please stop saying he sucks.

Maybe the current President could remove Supreme Court justices from office? No? Maybe he could arrest them? Blockade their houses and turn off their Internet? Ya know, for national security reasons?

right. the president could order troops to suppress protesters using live fire and the supreme court would extend that absolute immunity

Yeah it’s not like we’ll see a repeat of 1968, when the Democrats downshifted to a Vice President at a convention in Chicago that was plagued by protests against the party’s support for an unpopular foreign war and wound up creating an opening for a candidate they’d beat before.
Totally different!

Every politics post can be understood at least in part as the poster rehearsing an argument they're planning on having with their dad later, only instead of into a bathroom mirror it's to the knowing void of internet strangers. Anyway pass the mashed potatoes.

They are panicked.
They aren’t panicked about Biden’s age, though, they’re panicked about a potential Trump presidency, and their time would be better spent explaining why that prospect is worthy of panic.

The reason pundits like the contested convention thing is that it plays to their vanities: what if the smart people made a meritocratic decision about who’s best?
This is driven, in part, by being mostly isolated from negative reactions to their opinions over the years.

Hello new friends!
Have a look at Messier 13. Visible to the naked eye, if the sky is dark enough.
Edmund Halley spotted it in 1714 and wrote “This is but a little Patch, but it shews it self to the naked Eye, when the Sky is serene and the Moon absent.” Which, same.

For a long time, the last state didn't ban it until the 1920s, it was the norm that in many states non-citizens could vote so long as they'd been here a year and merely intended to become naturalized. When there were, for most of that time and most of the world, no limits on physically moving here.

You can bemoan its superficial ignorance, damn the irrational electorate all day long. But people don't vote their pocketbooks or on issue positions. Nobody's sitting down balancing out their policy scorecard. They vote as an expression of their values, a statement about their identity and beliefs.
