It’s times like this I’m most grateful to have a diverse support system and fierce friends with lived experiences vastly different from mine. They keep me from despairing in the vacuum of my admittedly narrow lived experience of societal adversity.

When my son was two we told him not to do something. He wordlessly picked up Buzz Lightyear and proceeded to smash our big screen with it in one throw while making unyielding eye contact. The four minutes of complete silence that followed is where I am mentally this week.

If I could go back and be small me cringing through creepy old men at church hugging me non-consensually for too long on Sunday mornings it would have gone very differently. My daughters would scream at them, scream at every proximate adult who did nothing, and then burn the church to the ground.

Mine in ‘04 had only one mildly fun moment. Keynote speaker was Al Gore’s daughter. She was making a joke & said, “You win some, you lose some, & then there’s that ambiguous *third* category.” Met with uproarious laughter from the professors & stony silence from the audience of red-state parents. 🥴

Accidentally left my calendar open for appts at a time I promised to take my doctor phobic husband to an appointment and someone of course booked. For a normal person this would be a no brainer resched, but when you work for attorneys it’s like, “Well, maybe I didn’t need a soulmate after all.”

Finally got my 1st dose of Zepbound! Pumped because 1) it’s going to help me lose the pandemic weight, and 2) you can only have 3 drinks/week (and only 1 drink/day). I work in a field where most of my colleagues are somewhere on the Val Kilmer in Tombstone scale, and I’m not trying to do all that.

Same at my daughter’s middle school. The other day they locked down because there was a high speed chase on a nearby highway. Her school is miles from said highway. Like…not even near an exit.
