I guess I'm saying this in reaction to people literally talking about "do I have to physically throw out my Neil Gaiman books" as a serious question, and I'm just... having a hard time believing that someone who owns a lot of Neil Gaiman books is *shocked* by these particular allegations

I'm saying that at no point did I assume that Neil Gaiman definitely had not had volatile and unwise relationships with people who looked up to him there's a lot more i could say but I'm worried about coming off as too flippant

yeah I think the takeaway from all of this is "all of this would be very relevant if I was going to have a personal relationship with the celebrity in question" and... not at all in any other context? like I get "I don't want to support their work" but I presume your uncle, also, has a job somewhere

And, like, that can mean that you go through life with steam coming out of your ears because some famous guy had a shady relationship with his housekeeper or you can decide that life's too short and your heart's too fleshy to have your blood pressure up all the time.

I'm seriously not interested in digging into it; Gaiman's life is a Hot Goth Mess and I've known enough Hot Goth Messes to know that people are probably just never going to agree on things

I... am not necessarily a big fan of the idea that we have to... be concerned with the private lives of entertainers or creators, but I guess the pithy way to put this is that I think this reveals Gaiman is probably writing a self insert exactly as much as I have always assumed he is

but like, it seems pretty clear to me that if you're going to be a public figure, even if you're openly in an open relationship, having a relationship with people much younger than you or with a power dynamic (real, not like BDSM stuff) is going to invite judgment (and mixing in kink raises risks)

I am... confused about the moral judgment aspect because I can make aesthetic judgements (does it make sense for a person to have had x or y relationship/to desire it), legal judgments, and then there's like an implicit... opinion on the Rightness of Everything, which I don't think my brain *does*

polyamorous (in theory) here, and... yeah my take is "if you think about the specific situation and people involved it would be highly unlikely for this specific scenario to have not ended up in some kind of scandal unless everyone involved had incredibly high levels of trust the scenario precludes:

A great thing about being people on the internet is that we are not well positioned to nor responsible for investigating allegations against someone, and we have no obligation to make a judgment at the first possible opportunity.

What *will* fuck things up for you is continuing to ignore history and sabotaging these advantages. You're free to do it (such as calling for Biden to drop out) But guess what? If the world goes to shit, YOU are one of the people to blame. Seriously. Take a breath. Look at the big picture.

Guys. I know everyone is their own expert who "does their own research" but too many of you really need to spend some time listening to historians. Parties that have this many fundamental advantages going for them almost always hold the White House. This has been true for nearly two centuries!

You know how I know most of this story is about nothing but fear and panic? Because people will stop talking about it the minute another story kicks it out of the news cycle. Remember how the Free Palestine movement was going to upend the election? People got bored.

You could do something narrative-ish, like cards or game currency builds a player a narrative fanfic outline, maybe other players can complicate it, and then the main player has to ad-lib it.

so like the generic "young hero" card would be logged as something you've played and exists and other abilities would allow you to alter its traits, give it a name, make it stronger, etc. so the game creates a history through a series of on-paper database updates

so like the IDEA being, you are simulating a story about whatever, you have a card called "young hero," which is virtual, it's not really a CCG, it's really a row in a database, it can do various things, but also, other abilities can modify or update different database rows, including its name etc

like the idea being, you have a notebook and you maintain different pages, and you have virtual "cards" you select using dice or whatever from lists of rows in tables (which are ordered and can change order) all on paper

thinking about trying to design some kind of paper based game system to help me develop and flesh out stories, like... this is gonna sound really weird and it is, but I kinda want to make a game simulating writing a fanfic, but using paper-based simulation of database operations

One of the greatest things about Biden is how he stops to help kids with stutters and offers them advice. It's just beautiful to see. Especially as a parent of a child with a stutter, it upsets me how little tolerance for or understanding of speech impediments that Americans have.

The thing about Heritage and other MAGA goons is they're literally afraid to ride public transit and wet their pants a little anytime a car backfires. That's not to say they can't be scary, but let's keep in mind that they're also pathetic and there are only so many coked-up Proud Boys.

the best way to chill out about things is to stop assuming everyone else has good judgment and is doing things that make sense "oh but I'm an idiot! I'm a failure! I'm awful at decisions!" great news, about everyone! you're free! the NYT doesn't know shit, neither do we! all is chaos!
