You truly think the Biden Administration was merely less bad on public transit and infrastructure than Trump?

Not that anyone particularly cares about original meaning, but think folks should still say it out loud: For all of the things that are unclear in the founding documents and unknowabilities of what the Founders intended, "the President can kill anyone or commit a coup" was *never* legally arguable

If Jefferson had just ordered Madison to kill Marbury and then pardoned him for it, then his problem would’ve been solved and the courts wouldn’t have gotten involved.

How can a President be impeached for high crimes and misdemeanors if he can’t commit crimes or misdemeanors?

The words in the constitution don't give the president immunity, nor was that the intention of the authors. But you must understand that the meaning of the constitutional vibes have evolved over time in a way only I can detect. Now there are penubras and emanations that tell me he is in fact immune.

Never forget to place this, and everything that follows, on the Senators who lacked the courage to convict Trump even as the broken glass and shit from his followers still littered the Senate Chamber.

Have to find the humor in the Court allowing judges to disregard the scientific reasoning of federal agencies but prohibiting them from acting on a president who turns to his AG and says "I want your department to help me do crimes".

The Roberts Court puts in stark reality the stakes of losing another presidential contest for Democrats still arguing this morning that Biden didn't disqualify himself last night.

I've hated the bothsidesism of people who "just don't want to vote for either of these guys," but its a serious chunk of people and I wouldn't underestimate the power of shaking everything up.

Just remarkable how "old person won't retire" has driven history for the last 15 years. Kennedy not resigning after brain cancer diagnosis -> Scott Brown Feinstein staying on past prime and bungling hearings -> Kavanaugh/Barrett RBG Biden

It's a simple question of when the free rider club - the members who object to every time agreement and vote against approps and debt ceiling bills - gets too big to keep the lights on. Could easily happen next Congress.

IOW you need to read it not just as "he's had another stupid idea", but that his basic instincts in every part of his plan for America is one centered on him, where he is the King not just of the state, but of society and the economy itself, enabling whole-of-society corruption with him at the top.

At least the Lochner Court era could be explained to posterity in terms of principled classism and self-interest. The Roberts Court has become internet brain nihilism in government-issued robes.

There's something really sick about this narrative that one more charge, one more legal process, or one more election is going to stop a popular national authoritarian movement.

there’s a powerful set of educated but out-of-touch liberals who still don’t quite grasp (1) how far the conservative base has drifted into radicalism and (2) how close most “educated” conservatives are to that base

Interesting how “let the guy get away with crimes, for unity” only applies to presidency. Nobody’s out there arguing that, like, Gretchen Whitmer should be able to commit crimes and pardon herself.
