@alasdairstuart.com I very nearly lol'd in my office at the world-weary intonation of "Mr Rupert, the rabbit, it is talking again." Good work.

Yes! I usually do one before a period of leave that's house-focused (which has been most of them in past year since we've been renovating our kitchen in stages). Also July exists to clear things so I have as little to do as poss in August. Next one seems ambitious, but it'll stretch to end of year.

It Is Done!
My general To Do list that I started in February. Just put up the shelf the other day. Bird house and fabric sorting not done, but can be done later.
Now I have a new one, with greater focus on decluttering. It'll be more months cos work is already gearing up to the very busiest time.

Kid is watching Miraculous again, and at least now we've been to Paris I can point out places we've been this year. I think he's a bit irritated by it, but then I find Cat Noir pretty irritating (but somehow Adrian is fine, with Marinette on that).

Yeah, I can understand that. Seems like the kind of thing that'd be great to have the option of a testers/try before you buy, but appreciate it might not be a good product for that. Though more things should be like that really.

I am one of the people who has met you & not noticed your head size. Sounds like some kind of cranial optical illusion (the baby story suggests your hair contributes to this). Is there maybe swimwear headgear for ppl with afros or those that use head coverings that might also work for you?

Talking about the election result in my recurring activist meeting this evening, and people were saying they're feeling hopeful. I feel heartened and cautiously optimistic. It was pointed out that if you look at Lab, Lib Dem & Green that's a fair chunk of govt that are better on the environment.

This is amazing and is a serious way to start to fight back the fascist menace we as Americans face. This is just amazing and I cannot say enough good things about this kind of thing. We need more of this in other areas letβs crowd source a pro democracy movement response before the election.

I had First Time in Forever from Frozen and When Will My Life Begin from Tangled as repeated earworms for like a year before I realised both are songs about being stuck in your house. In retrospect not subtle, but you don't always spot this stuff when you're in it.

Went to a regional eco activist event yesterday & it was so great hearing different things people are doing in different places. Discussion of GE results generally positive, though some hadn't changed MP. No one from Hereford where they have a Green MP, which would've been interesting to hear about.

I saw what you said about this the other day and raised the point at a regional activist event talking about the GE (acknowledging Oxfordshire is outside our area). It's good that local parties proving useful can change the national picture.

I really would like UK political media to consider the possibility that voters in places like Oxon didn't 'reject the Tories', but made a positive choice to elect Lib Dems now we see our local and county councils in coalition are doing useful things after decades of self-serving, arrogant Tory rule.

i wrote a short (850-word) essay about organizing my very first protest, despite being kind of a cowardly activist.
there's kind of an amazing postscript to this story, which i'll share in the this thread (read it after you read the essay, okay?)

Also not going to lie, the last year has been particularly challenging for us as a family, involving several trips to hospital for a loved one's very concerning situation and other shenanigans I can't talk about but which have taken a toll on mental health and finances.
Subscribing would help both.

This is really important now βΒ lots of very thin majorities, even (especially!) for Labour MPs.
MPs will still be thinking about campaigns right now, where in a fairly short time they'll be thinking about being an MP for five years.
Get them thinking about the issues that matter to you βΒ now!

Something that's important to do now is WRITE TO YOUR MP. Particularly if they are new. Not a form letter or autogenerated one. An actual personal one. Not frothy. Just firm and clear. Ask them their views.
When they respond, tell them how it aligns (or doesn't) to KEEP your vote.

At an event recently I thought I was pouring orange juice, but the first sip proved it was orange squash (it was in a glass bottle & said juicy in bigger letters than squash). Had to dilute it with a lot of water in a bigger glass, then I was very full.

Husband and I, early in our relationship, talked about having a house made of bookcases, but then reality of owning a house and being a grown up sets in. We're hoping to make some custom shelves for one room maybe next year, though mostly cos we'll also be soundproofing.
