Additionally, of course, folks like Omar and AOC are young enough that they'll actually have to live through everything a Trump presidency brings and then some, while the centrists will probably retire and die in bed three weeks later, surrounded by family.

I don't have a strong preference on Biden because of how much uncertainty there is, but seeing stuff like this cross my path is going to kill me.
I'm begging people to learn how parties work. You can't Aaron Sorkin your way out of this.

You're right. Many, not all, people lack empathetic imagination to understand how a policy can have very negative effects unless it directly affects THEM and their loved ones. This makes it very hard to sound the alarm of the atrocious shit that may soon descend.

An introvert's (me) perfect day today: No appointments on the calendar for the next two days. Only wake up in the morning, make coffee, and write (a blog post for a new book).
Feels great to have the 15 year book manuscript off my desk for a few months while the OUP reviewers read.

Because I've spent 21+ years studying US immigration policy and law, I have no doubt DHS would abuse it's power and be the federal agency that does the most harm to the most people. This agency is awash in resources & capacity to surveil immigrants AND citizens. See for details: shorturl.at/XfQZp

You all think I'm posting this to be funny. I'm not. In the face of entrenched institutional and structural discrimination, I will do what I can, but not overwork myself.

Good morning! We are hiring an editorial assistant. This is a great job to learn the fundamentals of editorial acquisitions at a UP. It’s also a great job for you if you simply cannot get enough of my stupid jokes, because boy howdy do I make a ton of them in meetings. jobs.jhu.edu/job/Baltimor...

New Yorkers: I don't care if you're not vegan (I'm not). Went w/ two vegan friends to Spicy Moon in West Village because I love Sichuan. Vegan restaurants are a bimodal distribution, either "meh" to "Sweet Jesus". This was the latter. Recommend: scallion pancakes, sesame noodles, kung pao tofu.

It would be like the first time, so much chaos in every sector that people putting out fires are overextended and public attention is divided, jumping from one manufactured crisis to another.

Let's think about the group Trump hates the most: non-white migrants. Add his (and those around him) penchant for performative cruelty. Remember child separation at the border as policy? Now let's think about what would happen to migrants and non-white people if he wins again. Connect the dots.

To call the Roberts court “a conservative Warren court,” and thus suggest a false equivalence on how the two exercise judicial power, misses that one was up against entrenched racism, defiant states, and no democracy.
The only thing the Roberts court is up against is … a slightly modern society.

DHS is 100000% the Federal agency to worry about the most, in a second Trump administration. They're hardly under control in the best of times.
