I get you, I just think this is an easier distinction on paper than in practice. The reason for dumping him is that he’s not…reliably compos mentis. There’s no way to validate that for campaigning but dismiss it for governing.

I just don’t think that is a credible distinction, given that the reason they’d get him off the ticket is that he is not… reliably compos mentis. It will immediate raise questions about who is executing the powers of the president and validate extant ones about who already did. YMMV
