It’s so cool that cities are like “pweeease only turn your AC on if you’re actively dying and don’t go below 79 🥺🤘🏻💗” while the AI nobody asked for is slurping up the power grid to make 1 image of a girl with 5 tits

What I didn't realise is that if you apply the latest revisions (the worst ones so far, in terms of cheating) to the projections, it shows that Australia can ENTIRELY FAIL on its two major climate policies (82% clean power and transport fuel efficiency standards) and *STILL HIT* the 43%

19/21 The richness and breadth of the principles elaborated by this group, and the activities supported, suggest that scholars working on climate issues in any discipline could benefit from increasing collaboration with activists.

18/21 In this minifesta we sought to learn from our colleagues in activism. We conclude that as privileged academics we must stand up, speak out and act accordingly. We challenge our peers and colleagues across academia to join us.

In case it isn't clear: a situation where tech companies are panic-building energy-greedy data centres under the guise of "AI" doesn't lead to rapid emissions reductions: it means new wind and solar serve corporate waste rather than pushing coal/gas out. See: Texas, or Ireland

Airline emissions are bouncing back to their pre-pandemic levels with an increasing share coming from budget airlines.

We need a kerosene tax and to extend the UK emissions trading scheme to all departing flights.

When I first criticised this policy it was defended on the grounds that SUVs were in the stronger-target group, and there were limits to the formula where heavier cars had weaker targets. Both of those have been tuned in favour of car companies, now - with the impact of more emissions
