i was just going to make a post about this. if trump decides you are an enemy of the state or a “threat to national security” and has you deported, citizenship or not, there’s nothing you can do to get home. he has full legal power to render you stateless.

There are around 50 million children age 6-17 in this country. I'm not particularly good at math but does a couple hundred surgeries and maybe a few thousand kids on hormone therapy a year strike you as a particularly large percentage of 50 million?

Don’t ever recall a beer, but there were MANY times that I came in and saw a giant ‘iced tea’ or ‘water’ that I grabbed to quench summer thirst that was a Long Island or Gin and Tonic. Not pleasing to my younger palette.

That’s why I asked an open ended question. I don’t feel the allyship was insincere at all. I make no such accusation. She felt strongly enough about it to call it out. That’s awesome. I would just not use Guardians to refer to anything before it existed.

The racism was the point of the name change. The “dead name” connection is a fun poke to current events and shows allyship with a marginalized community that needs it now! I’m not here to judge or ‘woke scold’, just want to understand the style guide choices.

How about this, ‘I would engage in some casual racism if it weren’t for some trans folks!’ I don’t think that’s what she meant, but that is also how you are now turning my comment. One doesn’t have to use the old name OR the new name, some writers ignored the old name for decades.

I disagree with your assessment of precise and accurate, I feel they were only adequate for using the new name going forward and not using the old name. In my opinion, this leaves an open space for why to use the new name for the past period. You, and the OP, don’t have to agree with me. That’s OK.
