bouie is literally the only person on the NYT board who is behaving and responding to the debate like a professional that has followed and covered a presidential election. i mean that seriously, i'm not being snarky.
Trump found liable for sexual assault, bank fraud, convicted of 34 felonies, on the hook for two other felony prosecutions at least: NYT Editorial Board ain’t got shit.
Biden has a bad debate in Atlanta four months prior to the election that nobody watched:
HE MUST RESIGN AND WEAR A HAIR SHIRT
Usually the incumbent does bad in the first debate.
Look at the last several 1st debates.
One’s been running the country and the other has been running from the law and golfing.
a bad debate performance by an incumbent early in the summer isn't even unusual, it's pretty normal, and the challenger is facing sentencing for more than three dozen felony charges in a couple of weeks, insisting that it's over for the incumbent *now*, *in june* is absurd
The contrast between his thoughtful and historically informed analysis of the situation and everyone else basically talking like they're podcasters covering the NBA draft is whiplash inducing
Bouie is such an outlier on the NYT opinion staff, which otherwise reads like the WSJ OpEd section sans Rupert Murdoch's ghost looming over everyone's shoulder.
No one has a viable replacement for Biden to put forward. I'm not overly impressed with Harris because of her history in California, but she'd be the logical choice.
There's no one like Obama waiting in the wings, and replacing Biden at this point would guarantee a Trump win.
Honestly one of the major things I respect bouie for is managing to be actually really sober-minded especially when surrounded by people losing their grip on reality
