What's really disturbing about the debate fiasco is there's no way to be confident that Biden has it in him to pull off the near-flawless execution he'll need to win at this point.
At a minimum, the Bidens owe us a real conversation about that.
I'm thinking Biden's at 50% good days vs. bad days, when on good day's he's lucid and assertive. Trump may be at 75% good days, but both may be exhibiting incipient dementia. Definitely not what the country needs.
He does not need near-flawless execution. He does need to convince the country that his term was markedly better, and the only other option is a descent into fascism.
And a conversation "explaining things" will only add to his woes.
I don't understand why you frame this as needing an honest real conversation when what you mean is that you want the Biden to say he's too old to be President.
Biden is the candidate we have. There is no scenario where some magic 3rd candidate beats Trump. None. All these think pieces about how Biden is doomed, that Journo World has had packed away for months, doesn’t change that.
Why are we asking for a “near-flawless execution” of anything from a man who is told the fate of the free world rests on his shoulders? Why are we not asking for the GOP to not nominate a deranged dipshit who doesn’t even know the name of his own drug dealer?
Fck off with this drivel. If Trump is reinstalled in the WH, the American experiment is well and truly over and everyone on the planet knows it. To primly wring your hands at Biden's debate performance in the face of these dire consequences should be embarrassing to you, but sadly I suspect not.
Setting aside the bullying by a convicted felon, the complete disregard for facts and fact-checking by the moderators - which would have completely changed things - and the horrible preparation for a debate that was never going to happen, Biden did pretty good. Could have been a lot better.
I'm still thinking about the article, but my immediate gut reaction is that putting so much emphasis on Jill and "the Bidens" as decisionmakers feels like a low blow, perhaps calculated (or perhaps unintionally functioning) to invoke reagan-esque mental lapses in the mind of the reader.
I don't feel that Joe Biden owes me or any voters the "conversation" you are asking for
He should consider his options carefully
He'll be judged by the results and he ought to be realistic about his capacities
It was totally an unforced error. The state of the union address was wonderful. WHY did he think he didn't need to give that kind of performance? And then he was out making appearances instead of resting up for it.
Where would we be now if Biden chose to step aside after one term and the party had moved Democratic Governors in California, Michigan, and MN into a leading role instead? What should have been a walk thru the park election against a convicted felon, traitor, and rapist will now go down to the wire
There isn't anyone who can step in & "pull off near-flawless execution". Pull any name out of your hat & they'll be a disappointment to a large chunk of potential Democratic voters. They'll be savaged by the GOP smear machine. The media will keep both-sidesing the horse race.
Fuck you assholes. Did you miss the part where the other guy lied nonstop? Did you miss the part about his felony convictions? His lack of policy discussion? The failure of CNN to fact check or at least press for an answer to the question? Any fucking question? Stop pretending to be a news outlet!
