The article below discusses the per-county requirements being a little difficult to meet. I have never heard of these and don't know how widespread they are. But it seems like an anti-majoritarian tool conservatives could use to undermine ballot measures.

Years ago I played in an adult league, and in one game the opposing keeper (one of the dirtiest players in the league) did to me exactly what the Venezuela keeper did to that Canadian player. So seeing that play released some bottled up feelings.

Earlier I got dinner at Bobo's Chicken, a famous OKC spot I hadn't yet tried. Line starts forming by 6:45, and they start taking orders around 7:30. It's worth the wait, and the reputation is earned! Dusting the fries w/ cayenne is such a great added touch. *This portion will last multiple meals.

A friend of mine attended a Braves game recently, and posted a pic of their great seats just several rows behind home plate. I saw that all those seats had little TVs so you could watch the game. I'm like, this is what taxpayer dollars are going towards in new stadiums 🤦🏼♂️

At the bar during France/Portugal penalties, a lot of dudes screamed at the TV wanting Cristiano Ronaldo to cry. When he took his shot - "Please miss so I can see him cry!" When Portugal loses - "Put the camera on Ronaldo so I can see him cry!" Def a moment for gender & masculinities analysis.

With the news around Bolsonaro being charged for criminal conspiracy, money laundering & stealing public goods (the diamonds), it's important to point out that 9 military leaders were also involved. The trope that the military (unlike politicians) wouldn't tolerate corruption is absolutely untrue.

FWIW, during my time in DCES at UW & working in env soc circles, many folks have experienced disparaging comments from ppl who say env/EJ work is activism & not real sociology (even during job market talks). So there's a strong dynamic of gatekeeping for what counts as "serious" sociology.

The push for a brokered convention is concerning to me b/c it's anti-democratic, shifting power away from the public and to party leaders. The shift away from brokered conventions came during a period where democracy expanded (e.g. civil rights acts). It's just a different type of retrenchment.

In my global inequality class I show this video on Argentine citizens holding ex-dictators accountable for crimes. "Escraches" were a big tactic, involving protests at their homes, embarrassing them in front of their neighbors, & not letting them live normal lives.
