The certainty of some pundits is exactly what worries me. There’s just too many variables for anyone to be that confident, unless they’re operating based on a certain amount of ignorance.

i think the thing that is leading me to check out of the biden conversation as much as possible is the sheer amount of certainty being expressed. i am not at all confident that i really know anything here!

This is really bad. We can have a serious conversation about Biden's cognitive health, but the press and pundits are not doing that. It's a mix of bias and ignorance that's causing these kinds of problems (e.g. assuming Biden had Parkinson's). www.washingtonpost.com/politics/202...

This is extraordinarily risky. The longer and more divisive a primary, the harder it is to recover for the general. These folks (podcast guys), in practice, had their careers made b/c of the Trump presidency. They just don't have as much to lose.

Ultimately the Democratic Party gets to decide who its nominee is, for better or worse. But it certainly seems like parts of the media believe they it is their job to choose the Democratic candidate, rather than covering the strengths and weaknesses of *both* candidates running for President.

Been thinking about the Claudine Gay coverage as a keystone to Biden coverage : it was an editorial campaign driven by story after story. It takes enormous editorial hubris to be certain they are right (they were wrong about Gay).

The backlash from base voters who very explicitly demanded a Black woman as VP (and on the Court) as our “seat at the table” in exchange for our electoral organizing…whew, you are not prepared. But almost all of the white alternatives are, and it’s why they keep saying no.
